University of Malta Graduates: 1998-2007 Whist more students are graduating now then ten years ago, there still exist gender gaps in the choices for male and female students. Overall, more female students are completing courses than male students, with more females obtaining first degrees, diplomas and post graduate diplomas. On the other hand, more males are likely to complete PH.Ds. Up until 2006, more male students completed Masters degrees than female students, but in 2007 this changed. More male students are concentrated in FMEE, ICT and Architecture, with five times as many male students in the former two, and twice as many in the latter. Male students are also more concentrated in Sciences yet the difference is not as great. Female students are more concentrated in IHC, Medicine, Education, Communication, Law and Arts. The following are tables and graphs by Degree, Faculty, Institute and Centre, showing the number of graduates, per year, by gender. For females, the highest number of graduates was in 2004 and for males in 2005. Since then, the numbers have decreased slightly overall. Ch. D course was offered every alternate year, therefore in 1998, 2000 and 2002 there were no graduates. However, this trend reversed from 2003 onwards and more female students have been graduating from the Faculty since then, although the differences are minimal. Since 1998, the number of female students has only increased minimally, from 5 to 16 (16 being the highest graduating in 2007). Similarly, male students graduating from this course increased from 63 to 80 in 2006 and down to 68 in 2007.
