DAAD Scholarship Programme 2016/2017
For the 2016/2017 academic year, the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) offers several
scholarship programmes for different target groups:
1. Study Scholarships for Graduates in the field of Architecture, Music, Performing Arts, Fine
Arts/Film, Design/Visual Communication and Film
duration of the funding: 10 – 24 months
application deadline: October 31st 2015
2. Study Visits by Groups of Students
Who can apply?
University teachers.
duration of the funding: 7 – 12 days
application deadline: November 1st 2015, February 1st 2016, May 1st 2016
3. Research Grants – One-Year Grants
Who can apply?
Excellently-qualified doctoral candidates and young academics and scientists who have
completed a Master's degree or Diplom, or in exceptional cases a Bachelor's degree at the
latest by the time they begin their grant-supported research, or those who have already
completed a PhD (postdocs).
duration of the funding: 7 -10 months
application deadline: December 1st 2015
4. Research Grants – Cotutelle Doctoral Programmes
Who can apply?
Excellently-qualified doctoral candidates and graduates who have admission to a doctoral
programme at the time they begin their grant-supported research.
duration of the funding: max. 18 months
application deadline: December 1st 2015
5. Study Scholarships for Graduates of All Disciplines
Who can apply?
Excellently-qualified graduates of all disciplines who hold a first degree with opportunties to
complete a postgraduate or Master´s degree course at a state (public) or state-recognised
German higher education institution.
duration of the funding: 10 – 24 months
application deadline: December 1st 2015
6. University Summer Courses
Who can apply?
Students in Bachelor´s and Master´s programmes who will have completed at least two
academic years of studies at the time of starting their funded stay.
duration of the funding: min. 18 days of course with a minimum of 25 hours of teaching per
week
application deadline: December 1st 2015
7. Intensive Language Courses
Who can apply?
Students in Bachelor´s and Master´s programmes who will have completed at least two
academic years of studies at the time of starting their funded stay as well as doctoral
students. Applicants from the fields of German studies, German as a Foreign Language etc.
are excluded.
duration of the funding:
application deadline: December 1st 2015
8. Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists
Who can apply?
University teachers and established academics and scientists who have usually completed a
doctoral degree and work at a university or research institute in their home country.
duration of the funding: 1 – 3 months
application deadline: April 1st 2016 for scholarships between July 1st 2016 and January 31st
2017
9. Research Grants – Short-Term Grants
Who can apply?
Excellently-qualified doctoral candidates and young academics and scientists who have
completed a Master's degree or Diplom, or in exceptional cases a Bachelor's degree at the
latest by the time they begin their grant-supported research, or those who have already
completed a PhD (postdocs).
duration of the funding: 1 – 6 months
application deadline: April 1st 2016 for scholarships between July 1st 2016 and January 31st
2017
10. Re-invitation Programme for Former Scholarship Holders
Who can apply?
Former holders of DAAD research grants or study scholarships, who were funded for a period
of over six months; former East German scholarship holders who studied for at least one
year in Germany.
duration of the funding: 1- 3 months
application deadline: April 1st 2016 for scholarships between July 1st 2016 and January 31st
2017
Furthermore the DAAD offers a new funding programme - co-financed by the Marie Curie Programme
of the European Commission - for outstanding postdoctoral researchers from all disciplines and
nationalities: Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience (P.R.I.M.E.).
The Leibniz Association (WGL) and the DAAD offer recent international postdocs the opportunity to
conduct research at a Leibniz Institute in Germany of their choice: Leibniz – DAAD Research
Fellowships.
Within the programme IASTE (International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical
Experience) DAAD supports internships in commercial enterprises, research and higher education
institutes for students of Natural and Technical Sciences, Agriculture and Forestry who are enrolled in
member countries of the IAESTE.
DLR-DAAD Research Fellowships is a programme implemented by the 'German Aerospace Center'
(DLR) and the 'German Academic Exchange Service' (DAAD). This special programme is intended for
highly-qualified doctoral and postdoctoral students as well as senior scientists in the field of
Aeronautics, Space, Transportation, and Energy.
