JOB SUMMARY:
Provides patient-centered teaching to pharmacy students and clinical pharmacy services to
patients.

______ Provides drug therapy consultations and on-site drug information to medical,
nursing, or other hospital staff.

______ Coordinates and teaches a required clerkship for pharmacy students.

______ Provides education in the patient care environment, small group discussions and
classroom.

______ Serves as a role model practitioner, demonstrating the integration of
pharmaceutical and medical sciences toward the improvement of patient care
outcomes.

______ Participates in the selection of appropriate medications for specific indications.
Maintains records on controlled drugs. Assists nurses with routine updating of
patient Medication Administration Record (MAR) as appropriate.

______ Uses interviews, physical assessment skills and interpretation of laboratory
parameters to monitor for adverse and therapeutic effects.

______ Oversees medication schedules in relation to each patient's ability to metabolize
and eliminate specific drug compounds, e.g.. aminoglycoside kinetics.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves

Yes In the event of an emergency, the employee holding this position is required to
“report to duty” in accordance with the university’s Emergency Operations Plan
and/or the employee’s department’s emergency response and/or recovery
plans. Familiarity with those plans and regular training to implement those
plans is required. During or immediately following an emergency, the employee
will be notified to assist in the emergency response efforts, and mobilize other
staff members if needed.

Bachelor's Degree
Minimum Experience:
1 Year
Minimum Field of Expertise:
Degree from accredited (ACPE) school of pharmacy. Registered pharmacist in state of
California. Hospital pharmacy experience. Familiarity with unit dose, IV admixtures and
clinical pharmacy practice.
Preferred Field of Expertise:
Completion of residency program or fellowship training. Hospital pharmacy experience.
