Update on Campus Construction Projects
a.
There was no update on the Chestnut Avenue project.
b.
There was a very wide-ranging discussion of various issues
related to parking, with A. Gaad in attendance from the
University Police Department. It was noted that the proposed
parking garages are well in the future; funding for such projects
is not currently available. It was also noted that there is interest
in converting some faculty/staff lots (Yellow) to student use
earlier in the evening than is currently designated (at present,
all yellow lots are available to students after 7:00 PM). One
suggestion might be to create a new parking category for lots
that would change designated use earlier in the evening -- one
lot in each quadrant of the campus could be so identified -which might increase spaces available to students who are on
campus in the evening.
c.
R. Boyd noted that the library project is on schedule. The
temporary location for library staff has not been finalized,
although the area adjacent to the temporary building west of
Peters might be available. R. Boyd and G. Wilson noted that
some of the glass panels for the north wall of the new building
have been rejected because of poor workmanship, which will
delay completion of the glazing work.
d.
R. Boyd and G. Wilson briefed the committee on the proposed
reconstruction the Peace Garden. Money has been set aside for
the project and a preliminary meeting to discuss the revised
garden took place last week. Work should begin early in the Fall
Semester and be completed shortly after the library project is
finished.
MSC to adjourn at 3:00 p.m.
