MINUTES OF THE SERVICE-LEARNING SUBCOMMITTEE CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, FRESNO 5241 N. Maple, M/S TA 43 Fresno, California 93740-8027 Office of the Academic Senate Ext. 2743 April 12, 2013 Members Present: Betsy Hays, Lizhu Davis, Chris Fiorentino, Song Vang, Viven Luo, Ben Boone Members Absent: The meeting was called to order by Chair Betsy Hays at 1:25 p.m. in the Thomas Conference Room 117. 1. Minutes. MSC to approve the Minutes of March 8, 2013. 2. Agenda. MSC to approve the Agenda as distributed. Entrepreneurship 163S was approved for S designation. The committee discussed the Nursing 151S proposal. It is the committee’s interpretation that this is an independent study/internship. As such, there does not seem specific course content with which to connect “course content” and service. There are no learning objectives, texts, defined readings, lectures or other materials that would demonstrate course content. The committee recommends that Chris meet with the faculty members to discuss these concerns and determine next steps. Chris reported that revised syllabi for Soc 1S and 130WS have not been received. Final consideration will be delayed until the May 3rd meeting. Steve Hart is working with faculty members on a rewrite of LEE 172ECES. Chris reports that there are no 5 year S course reviews required until at least 2014. Betsy reported that the following subcommittee members have accepted and been approved for extended terms: Lizhu Davis (Spring 2014 Matthew Jendian (Spring 2016) Vivien Luo (Spring 2015) Song Vang is willing to continue her participation as a student member. Chris will approach Steve Hart to see if he has been able to identify a student from the Urban Civic Ed Minor to serve as the second student member.
