HandsOn Kansas State
Senior Support Advocates Program Application
HandsOn Kansas State (HOKS) was created by the Kansas State University Student Governing
Association to support volunteer and service efforts of the campus and community. Manhattan
Good Neighbors (MGN) is a part of HOKS whose focus is bridging the gap between campus and
community relationships. MGN promotes civic engagement within the City of Manhattan to develop
educated leaders to serve the community. The Senior Assistance program is a part of
HOKS that collaborates with the Senior Center of Manhattan to assist elderly citizens to help build relationships.
Senior Assistance
Senior Assistants are expected to make visits to the Riley County Senior Center either weekly or biweekly depending
on availability. As a Senior Assistant volunteer, you will be given the opportunity to participate in several volunteer
activities at the Riley County Senior Center such as technology assistance, helping with events at the senior center,
and playing games such as bingo with the residents. The purpose of a Senior Assistant is to build relationships with
elderly citizens at the Riley County Senior Center and to help the organization in areas of need. Senior assistant
sessions will take place throughout the week depending on schedule of events and availability of the volunteer.
Assistants will be given first priority to be added to our Senior Resident Assistance volunteer list in which volunteers
will have the opportunity to help senior citizens throughout the Manhattan area with various tasks such as leaf raking
and snow shoveling on an as-need basis.
