Spring 2007 Activities The Reagans Go to Washington and America is Entertained An Evening With Theodore Roosevelt, offered in collaboration with KVPR Monday, January 8, 5:30 - 7 pm. This session will be repeated on Wednesday, January 10, 3 - 4:30 pm Tuesday, February 13, 6:30 - 8:30 pm Alice Peters Auditorium Parking in Lot A and UBC Lot When Ronald Reagan nearly stole the Republican presidential nomination away from President Gerald Ford in 1976, Americans saw the aging actor and California governor as a political force to be taken seriously. Four years later, he became the oldest man ever elected as President of the United States. With his wife Nancy at his side as his biggest fan and closest advisor, Ronald Reagan came to Washington claiming his “outsider” status as a great asset. Promising to reduce big government and government spending, the Reagan Presidency produced some surprising results and some very dramatic moments. Through it all, Ronald Reagan became known as “the great communicator,” and even his greatest political detractors found it difficult not to like the guy. Join Dr. Allen Carden, professor of history at Fresno Pacific University who also teaches part-time for Fresno State, in a revealing and refreshing look at a very human couple whose triumphs and tragedies were followed and felt by millions of Americans. (Also available: optional field trip to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum; see next column.) An Inconvenient Truth (film) Wednesday, January 24, 3 - 5 pm. Director Davis Guggenheim eloquently weaves the science of global warming with Mr. Gore’s personal history and lifelong commitment to reversing the effects of global climate change.
