Communications for the Connected Car WMG MSc Module The connected car is a crucial element of the wider Intelligent Transportation Network infrastructure, as well as the aspirational concept of ‘ubiquitous connectivity’. This module aims to deliver a comprehensive understanding of new and existing communication technologies to be implemented within a Connected Car environment. What will you study? What will you gain? The module will be delivered through lectures covering theory and practical examples, as well as group exercises. On completion, as a successful participant you should expect to be able to: Topics will include: cc Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the principles and theory of the operation of wireless data communication systems, and its relevance to the connected vehicle scenario cc An introduction to underpinning concepts and principles of communication systems cc Development of a detailed theoretical and practical understanding of the key elements and operating principles of the most commonly used communication technologies within the context of a connected car cc A comprehensive coverage of various factors affecting the quality of transmitted signals and the impact on performance within the context of a connected car cc Critical evaluation of potential design and development solutions to tackle signal degradation as well security of data transmission cc Requirements evaluation and critical analysis of the suitability of future communications technologies to support deployment of secure safety-critical systems and smart vehicle functions cc Demonstrate a comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge of different factors affecting communications around a smart connected vehicle, leading on to critical evaluation of a range of possible solutions cc Critically evaluate a range of modulation techniques and other data manipulation technologies to achieve optimum data transfer in a high-speed, safety critical environment cc Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding and critical evaluation of various approaches to security of data transmission within a smart connected vehicle environment cc Evaluate the requirements and critically analyse the suitability of Future Communication technologies (LTE) and their implementation/integration within the context of the smart connected vehicle to support advanced safety-critical systems deployment and smart vehicular functions Duration: 5 days Assessment: Post module assignment For more information www.warwick.ac.uk/wmg/tas tas@wmg.warwick.ac.uk
