April 11, 2014
To follow is a summary of maintenance and construction activities performed last week

Contractors are repairing water infiltration at multiple points within the O’Neill
Tunnel (both directions) and on related ramps. In addition, a team is inspecting and
repairing the fireproofing material in various areas where water infiltration repairs are
underway. Recent work has concentrated on the Southbound side and the HOV
Tunnel.
Water infiltration repair work is also underway in the I-90 Connector Tunnel (both
directions) and the Ted Williams Tunnel Eastbound.
A contractor working on behalf of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority
continued removing the ceiling in the Prudential Tunnel. Periodic weekend lane
closures will continue (see second paragraph above) while the project is underway.
The Westbound ceiling has now been removed.
A contractor working on behalf of the owner of the Prudential Center is also making
ceiling repairs in the Prudential Tunnel. This work is in a different area of the tunnel
from the work being done by the Convention Center Authority.
MassDOT continued the Callahan Tunnel rehabilitation, cleaning plenums and
making progress on installation of the wall panel support system. The tunnel reopened last month; rehabilitation work continues with periodic lane closures as
needed.
A contractor also performed a routine inspection of portions of the I-93 Southbound
Tunnel and related ramps. A contractor also performed a similar inspection on the
Northbound side. A contractor is also inspecting the I-90 Connector Tunnel
Westbound.
MassDOT workers performed a routine inspection of the ceiling hanger system in the
I-90 Connector Tunnel Eastbound.
MassDOT workers finished replacement of a faulty pump in the center pump room
inside the Sumner Tunnel.
MassDOT workers replaced nine cases of bulbs in the CANA Tunnel Northbound.
MassDOT replaced five cases of bulbs and 4 ballasts in the I-90 Westbound Tunnel.

A contractor repaired a crash attenuator in the I-93 Northbound Tunnel. The
attenuator was damaged in a crash.
A contractor installed flow meters in the pump station on Ramp R-T (Essex Street to
I-93 Northbound). The meters allow remote monitoring of pump station output
volumes.
MassDOT workers cleaned ten cameras, replaced a cable on one of the ten, and
performed preventative maintenance and cleaning of the fire alarm pull stations in a
section of the I-93 Southbound Tunnel in the vicinity of South Station.
