POSITION SUMMARY:
Internship
Part-time, flexible hours, non-paid internship with the Community and
Regional Planning Center and the Office of Community and Economic
Development at Fresno State.
Overview
Established in 2012, the Community and Regional Planning Center is a joint
venture between the College of Social Sciences, Department of Geography
and City and Regional Planning and the Office of Community and Economic
Development. The CRPC is designed to serve the San Joaquin Valley as a
clearinghouse for planning-related knowledge.
The Office of Community & Economic Development at Fresno
State connects the University to the community throughout the eight
counties of the San Joaquin Valley. We connect the community to the
resources of Fresno State, through data, research, industry insights, and
connections to collaborators, investors, researchers, affiliates, and new
markets.
Provide an opportunity for Fresno State college student to gain experience
in community and regional planning and community and economic
development.
PURPOSE:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide support to CRPC program staff to update and maintain the San
Joaquin Valley Planners Toolkit, an online educational guide and
reference source for communities who want to translate Smart Growth
Principles into action.
2. Provide support to CRPC program staff to organize and coordinate
quarterly Valley Planners Network meetings, Planners Who Lunch
speaker series, and events in partnership with local APA and AEP
chapters.
3. Provide support to CRPC program staff to organize and host monthly
parklet demonstrations, PARKhop, in Downtown Fresno.
4. Provide support to CRPC program staff to organize and host quarterly
Urban and Regional Transformation Cohort meetings and/or events
Additional duties include: data collection and input; research on various
topics and grants; community meeting logistics; technical assistance on
graphic presentations; and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Major or Minor in Geography and City and Regional Planning and/or
Major or Minor in Economics; OR educational experience directly
related to planning or related public sector field
Upper Division standing in course work
Proficient in Word, scanning equipment, PowerPoint, Excel
Team-oriented, self-motivated, thrives on results, is a problem-solver,
and wants to make a difference for the region
Must possess an understanding of community and regional planning
Must possess solid interpersonal skills, clear community skills
Must be able to exercise good judgment, have strong research skills,
be capable of independent thinking, have a professional and pleasant
demeanor, and be able to work with a diverse population
Must be highly flexible, able to adjust priorities, work under the
pressure of deadlines, and display a can-do attitude with ability to
deal positively with frequent change and deadlines.
SALARY:
Non-paid internship. May be eligible for school credit dependent upon
University criteria.
HOURS:
Part-time and flexible to accommodate school schedule.
