This position is filled by Dr. James Kennedy. The faculty and staff of the Department of Viticulture and Enology and the Viticulture and Enology Research Center, Fresno State Vineyards and Fresno State Winery work closely to support our students and the grape and wine industry. The Department of Viticulture and Enology carry out its vision and mission in cooperation with its advisory board, grape growers, wineries, table grape packers, raisin processors, dehydrators, government agencies and the faculty and units of Fresno State. Petrucci Library is a collection of Henry Madden Library embedded in the Department of Viticulture and Enology. Funded by the Viticulture and Enology Alumni Association, Henry Madden Library, and the Jordan College of Agricultural Science and Technology, the library focuses on serving the disciplines of growing grapes, and making wine. DVE COURSE MATERIALS • Blackboard is the course management system that Fresno State uses for online teaching and learning. Blackboard enables instructors to provide students access to course materials, communication tools, online assessments, and grades, as well as the ability to submit assignments electronically. • Blackboard can be accessed anywhere, anytime you have an internet connection at http://www.fresnostate.edu/academics/blackboard/ . Use your Fresno State username and password. • There is an online Student Orientation in the Hot Spots area in Blackboard. • Some DVE faculty will use Blackboard only for their syllabus; • Course reserves will be available in the in the V.E. Petrucci Library FALL 2015 VIT 199 / ENOL 199 SEMINAR Students are invited to attend the Wednesday seminars in the Enology 102 Classroom from noon to 1:00 pm during the Fall 2015 semester. A variety of grape and wine topics will be presented by industry guest speakers. No charge to attend. MANDATORY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES MEETING – for faculty, staff and student employees All viticulture and enology employees are required to attend the policies and procedures meeting on September 25, 2015. An annual graduation ceremony for the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, held at the Save Mart Center in Fresno. Graduates who complete their coursework in December 2015, May 2016, Summer 2015 may participate in the May 2016 Convocation Ceremony. Caps and gowns are required. A student can only participate (and be listed in the program) one time for each degree earned. Contests, an annual field trip to various grape growing regions. These student assistantships are made possible by industry donations to our program. Student applications for assistantships will be available and accepted by the Viticulture and Enology administrative office in the Spring of 2016, for the 2016‐2017 fiscal year. Be sure to watch for announcements in the Spring of 2016! There are also many grant‐funded employment opportunities for our viticulture and enology students. See our faculty researchers for details. PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS & ACTIVITIES Opportunities to Network with Alumni & Industry • Professional Organization: Become a student member of the American Society of Enology and Viticulture – ASEV. Applications are available in the Viticulture and Enology Office Lobby. Student members receive discounts at professional meetings, including the Unified Wine & Grape Symposium in January. Students in Enology 164 are required to work in the winery during the crush season to gain valuable hands‐on experience. Students enrolled in Enology 163 are also encouraged to volunteer anytime during the season. All volunteers are required to complete paperwork prior to working.
