Convocation Guide 2016 Friday, May 20, 2016, 8:00 am Save Mart Center Congratulations! As a candidate for a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics or Business Administration, or an MBA or EMBA, you are finally reaching a goal that you have worked so hard for these past years. The Craig School of Business wants to formally recognize you for this great achievement in front of your family, peers, guests, and faculty at the 29th Annual CSB Convocation. This Convocation Guide should provide you with everything you need to know to be prepared for this memorable event. If you have any questions this guide doesn’t answer for you, or if you are unsure about any aspect of the ceremony, please contact the Dean’s Office at 559.278.2482 or stop by PB 282. Who Is Eligible To Participate The CSB Convocation is open to all students graduating from the Craig School during the 2015-2016 academic year (Summer 2015, Fall 2015 and Spring 2016). Those students who have completed their degree in summer or fall of 2015, or applied to complete their degree in spring 2016 are automatically included in the ceremony. No additional forms are necessary to participate. Ceremony Information The 29th Annual CSB Convocation will be held Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Save Mart Center. The ceremony will begin at 8:00 am. Please check your Fresno State e-mail frequently for important updates. Graduates will need to arrive and be lined up with your department by 7:30 am. The student procession will be in the following order: Master of Business Administration-Traditional; Master of Business Administration-Executive; Craig Honors Program; ABBA; Department of Accountancy; Department of Economics; Department of Finance; Department of Information Systems & Decision Sciences; Department of Management and Department of Marketing. We will start the student procession promptly at 8:00 am. The ceremony will last approximately one and one half hours. Guest tickets are NOT required. As a graduate you can invite as many guests as you like. Guest seating is on a first come, first served basis. Special seating for guest with disabilities is available at the Save Mart Center. Please have your guests who need special seating contact an event staff member when they enter the Save Mart Center. As the CSB graduates enter the arena they will be seated by departments and the Dean will begin the ceremony. All guests and graduates will rise for the singing of our national anthem. The Dean will then introduce the platform guests. Fresno State President and Provost will address the gradates followed by the CSB Dean’s Medalists. The individual presentation of graduates will proceed in order of entrance into the arena. The ceremony will conclude with the singing of the Fresno State Alma Mater. Convocation Schedule 7:15 am Student Arrival. Please proceed to the loading dock behind the arena and immediately line up with your department. Secure a photo card and fill it out. 8:00 am Student Procession Begins-In order as above 9:30 am Ceremony Ends 10:00 am Reception for graduates and family-University Business Center-Gottschalks Gallery Announcements Craig School of Business Convocation announcements can be purchased from CB Grads. These are custom announcements for our ceremony. They can be purchased on the web at www.cbgrad.balfour.com . Information fliers are available in the Dean’s Office in PB 282. Class Stoles Each year the Craig School of Business sells class stoles to commorate the graduating class. The stoles are available for purchase in the Dean’s Office for $30 each. Class stoles are scheduled to be available for purchase on March 8th. Please stop by the Dean’s Office in PB 282 or call 559278-2482 for information on how to purchase a stole. Regalia and Grad Fest Gowns should be black and mid-calf in length. The cap is worn squarely on the head with the point in the middle of the forehead. The tassel is worn on the right side of the mortarboard until the President, at Commencement, officially and formally confers the degree. The tassel is then moved from the right side to the left side of the mortarboard. The tassel color - “drab” - reflects that you are a graduate of the Craig School of Business. All graduates will need to purchase regalia to participate in the Craig School of Business Convocation and the University Commencement ceremonies. Caps and gowns can be purchased at the Kennel Bookstore starting March 8th. The Grad Fest is March 8 & 9 at the Kennel Bookstore. Graduates can purchase a “Grad Box” which includes your cap, gown, tassel, Class of 2016 t-shirt, license plate frame and other goodies. To pre-order your Grad Box go to www. fresnostatealumni.com. Honors at Convocation Undergraduate and Graduate students are eligible to graduate with Honors if they meet the GPA of requirement listed below. For students completing the degree in spring 2016, GPA’s are based upon the fall 2015 semester, not the spring 2016 semester. Graduate 3.90-4.00 With Distinction (Red/Blue/Gold Cords) Undergraduate 3.90-4.00 Summa Cum Laude (Red/Blue/Gold Cords) 3.70-3.89 Magna Cum Laude (Red/Blue/Silver Cords) 3.5-3.69 Cum Laude (Red/Blue Cords) Undergraduate honor cords can be picked up from the Dean’s Office beginning May 2nd. Student Organization Sashes Active members of CSB student organizations that are graduating are eligible to wear sashes representing their organization. Photography Ultimate Exposures (www.ultimateexposures.com) will be taking pictures of each business graduate as they shake hands with Dean Harper on stage at Convocation and after they come off the stage. The photographer will be emailing a color proof to each graduate to their email address provided on the card. There is no obligation to purchase the photo packages that are available. Individual graduate portraits may be scheduled prior to the ceremony. Schedule an appointment by visiting the website above. Convocation Programs Craig School of Business Convocation programs will be available as guests and graduates enter the stadium. Additional copies can be requested from the Dean’s Office at 559.278.2482 after the ceremony. Guest Reminders • Guests will be allowed in the arena after 7:15 am. • No balloons are allowed in the Save Mart Center. Flowers will be available for purchase before and after the ceremony. • Graduates will exit west out of the arena after the ceremony, so please make advance arrangements to meet your graduates outside the west side of the arena. • Make sure you know the department of your graduate so that they can see you. • If you have a guest that needs special seating please ask a Save Mart Center usher for assistance when you enter the arena. Graduate Reminders • Be on time! Graduates need to arrive before 7:15 am at the loading dock behind the Save Mart Center. Entrance to the loading dock is on the eastside of the Save Mart Center. • Line up with your department by 7:30 am so we can begin on time. • Wear your cap and gown and nice shoes! No flip flops will be allowed. • Do not drink alcoholic beverages before the ceremony. Students who appear to be under the influence will be asked to leave the Save Mart Center and will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony. • Sit with your friends WITHIN your department (not alphabetical). • Stay standing after entering the stadium until all of the graduates are in. Graduate Hooding All MBA and EMBA graduates will be hooded at the Craig School of Business Convocation. Please refer to the hooding instructions that will be emailed out prior to the ceremony. Post-Convocation Reception The Craig School of Business will be hosting a reception for all the graduates and their family and friends in the University Business Center’s Gottschallks Gallery. This will be a great time for family and graduates to meet faculty and take photos. The reception will start at 10:00 am and light refreshments will be served. Stop by and take some photos with your most memorable facuty and start your celebration!
