his international service-learning experience will take place December 29, 2015 to January 11, 2016. Students
will travel to Fiji where they will spend 2-3 nights in a hotel and the remainder of the time in a small, rural

(Due to restrictions on accommodations in the village of Naboutini, Fiji, we must limit the number of individuals
from either gender to no more than 10. Therefore, we must collect this information to ensure that we do not select
too many individuals from either gender.)
This form will be used for an anonymous screening of applicants for the 2016 Fiji Service-Learning trip. Please do not
write your name on the form. While we ask that you limit your responses to each question to no more than a few
paragraphs at most, you are able to attach additional sheets of paper if necessary. There is no length requirement.
You must submit your completed application by Wednesday, April 24th at 3:00 pm to the Jan and Bud Richter Center
for Community Engagement and Service-Learning, Thomas Building, Room 107. If you have questions, please contact Professor Sarah Whitley at swhitley@csufresno.edu or Chris Fiorentino at chrisf@csufresno.edu or by calling

Why are you interested in the Fiji Trip as opposed to another study abroad trip?
What passions, talents, or resources will you bring to this trip that could benefit
your fellow participants and that you can share with the people of Fiji?
What are you, personally, hoping to gain from this experience?

Throughout this experience you will live and work extremely closely with fellow
participants and the Fijians. Group cohesion is vital. Please discuss your ability and
willingness to contribute to a positive team dynamic, including through regular
team reflection conversations and group activities.
Please check the boxes below indicating that you understand.
Final trip costs are yet to be determined. However, I understand that within
p
two weeks of selection, I will be expected to pay a $200 deposit. (Due date is
approximately June 1, 2015) Additional costs of approximately $2,700 for flight and other expenses will be required at a later date. Students will be notified of
the payment deadlines upon selection. Every effort will be made to reduce
student costs through fundraising and donations.
p I understand that the trip accommodations are rustic and that the main purpose
of this trip is service and multi-cultural learning.
I understand that selection for this trip is competitive and that failure to adhere
p
to deadlines related to payments and paperwork could result in a loss of my spot.
