Dear Sir/Madam,
On behalf of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), I am pleased to invite you to participate in a
workshop on “Mastering an Open Source e-Learning Platform” for Portuguese and Spanish speaking
countries in Africa, to be held in Maputo, Mozambique, from 8 to 12 July 2013. The workshop will be
hosted by the Telecomunicações de Mozambique (TDM). It is being conducted under the aegis of the ITU
Centres of Excellence Network for Portuguese and Spanish speaking countries in Africa.
The course coverage ranges from the installation of the operating system on the open source server, to the
installation of the application used to manage the training interventions. The main areas to be covered
during this training are: overview of a LAMP technology, Joomla as a content management system and
Moodle as a course management system and the integration of both. The course will also cover security and
backup strategies for the maintenance.
Among others, the following topics will be addressed:

Moodle high level configuration and customization
Joomla high level configuration
Operating system installations & migrations of applications
Replication & round robin dns setup & files backup strategy
Apache configuration, e-mail configuration
Troubleshooting.
This course is targeted at webmasters, information systems engineers and employees from regulators,
government organisations, telecommunication companies and academia, who are interested in
understanding the installation, implementation and management of an e-Learning platform based on an
open source solution. It is also open to trainers who may wish to gain an understanding of the hardware
and software driving online training.
