* When you select your General Education courses, remember the following:
· Gen Ed courses can also fulfill requirements for Teacher Certification and/or your Concentration. Select carefully.
· Once you are admitted to AU, all Gen Ed classes must be taken at AU.
· No more than two of the 10 Gen Ed courses can be from the same subject area (e.g., ANTH, PSYC, ECON, etc.).
· Before taking the lab science in Area 5, you must first pass Finite Mathematics or be registered concurrently for a higher-level
math course.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR INTENDED ELEMENTARY EDUCATION MAJORS:
1. Arrange to meet with the advisor for elementary education, Amy Simonsen (email simonsen@american.edu , phone x3715) during your first year, or, if you are a
transfer student, during your first semester at AU. As advisor to undergraduate majors, she can help you meet the scheduling complexities of this major and accommodate
special plans, such as study abroad.
2. Passing the Praxis CORE exam is a condition of admission to the School of Education, Teaching and Health. You should take the exam as a freshman or
sophomore.
