FUSILLÉS POUR L’EXEMPLE – TEACHER’S NOTES Teacher’s notes Suggested approach On opening the presentation, teachers will find nine options, each one addressing a particular theme. Before investigating the themes, teachers should familiarise themselves with the background notes on the executions (click Historique at the bottom of the slide). This could be printed and distributed to students. The students can investigate the names highlighted in green independently (and selectively) for further information via www.google.fr or via the Internet link on the last slide (quelques ressources supplémentaires). Each theme is linked to relevant original texts (in French) addressing certain pertinent issues. For example, the first theme – la répression/la réparation explores the harsh political climate of the period, including the despotic attitude of the generals and the meagre forms of redress open to the troops. Consequently, there are items from soldiers, generals, politicians (including the President and the Under-Secretary of State, himself a serving soldier) and an early human rights organisation – la Ligue des droits de l’homme. The extracts are varied and include passages for reading, listening (with accompanying questions) and translating. There are also grammar points explained for reference with further tasks for reinforcement. The topics can be explored in any order according to personal preferences.
