Course Description
CABT 102 - 10-Key Calculator is a one-unit course covering the 10-key touch system using electronic
calculators to solve typical business problems and applications. It is a self-paced course with no
regular class meetings; you are responsible for completing lessons using the textbook and calculator.
Expect to spend about 3 hours 10 minutes a week, completing at least one lesson per week.
Recommended preparation is eligibility for Math 154 or good arithmetic skills. Check your email often
for updates (the same email address associated with your Cabrillo College enrollment); begin early in
the semester and demonstrate regular progress. If you feel that you have special needs, please
contact the Accessibility Support Center (ASC) early in the semester at 479-6379.

Instructions and Progress Sheet
Complete Chapters 1 through 12 in the textbook Solving Business Problems Using a Calculator.
Follow the sequence of assignments below.
1. After completing each lesson, enter your answers on the Answer Pages in the back of the text.
Check your answers with the Answer Key (a black 3-ring binder kept near the calculators in the
Computer Technology Center.) Rework the problems you missed and make sure you understand
how to complete each new procedure.
2. Turn in your Answer Pages with your paper tape to the instructor, or put them in the instructor's
box in the Computer Technology Center.
3. Pick Up Your Work in the class folder in the file cabinet. Ask instructor for location. Keep all your
work to show your instructor before exams.
4. Confer with your instructor every two weeks or whenever you have questions.
5. Confer with your instructor and show all your completed work when you are ready to take your
midterm (after Chapter 7/Practice Test 1) and final (after Chapter 12/Practice Test 2).
6. Complete 10-minute Speed and Accuracy tests prior to the exams.
Progress Tests: These "Tests" are located in the back of the book and are not required, simply
recommended for additional practice. The answers are in the book to allow you to check your
accuracy quickly. You may check out a timer or use your watch to time yourself. These tests help to
prepare you for your Speed and Accuracy Tests.

CABT 102 Final Exam Study Guide/ Grading Guidelines
What is covered by the final exam in CABT 102, 10-Key Calculator?
Lesson 8: Constant Multiplication and Division (using the calculator to multiply or divide by the same
number many times, without re-entering that number)
Lesson 9: Continuous Multiplication (multiplying two or more factors, setting decimal correctly based
on number of decimals you are working with in the problem)
Lesson 10: Mixed Operations (dividing and adding or multiplying and subtracting, etc, in the same
problem)
Lesson 11: Accumulative Multiplication (using Memory Register)
Lesson 12: Negative Multiplication (using Memory Register)
How to prepare for the final exam?
•
•
•
Complete Practice Test 2 (in your textbook after lesson 12). Repeat it as necessary until you
can complete the practice test within 20 minutes (you will have 30 minutes to take the final,
but the final is slightly longer than the practice test). Check your answers in the answer
binder, as you would check the answers for any lesson. Note: The practice test does not
include any mixed operations problems, so review lesson 10 before taking your final.
Review the rules for the required number of decimal places in Lesson 9.
Practice using the memory keys as in lessons 11 and 12.
Factors involved in grading the final exam:
A correct answer is correct on the printed calculator tape, and also written in correctly on the test
sheet.
A correct answer has the correct number of decimal places, based on the following guidelines:
1. Are you working with money? The first few lessons dealt with setting decimal places for
problems involving money. As a general rule, use 2 decimal places when working with money.
2. Did you look for instructions for each section of the exam, to see whether you are instructed
to set your calculator for a certain number of decimal places?
3. If there is no instruction to use a certain number of decimal places, and if you are not working
with money, did you use the rule as demonstrated in Lesson 9 to determine the correct
number of decimal places for continuous multiplication?
Final Points and Grades:
There are 40 problems on the final exam. Each problem is worth 2.5 points.
A grade: No more than 4 incorrect problems (4 incorrect = 90%)
B grade: No more than 8 incorrect problems (8 incorrect = 80%)
C grade: No more than 12 incorrect problems (12 incorrect = 70%)
D grade: No more than 16 incorrect problems (16 incorrect = 60%)
