Brief statement summarising nature of tasks and how these build towards the final outcome – Through planned, co-operative learning activities, pupils will work in mixed age groups to create a backdrop, t-shirt design, animation,
dramatic performance with music to inform the school community about the impact of climate change on the Polarlands and what they can do to help.
What learning experiences should be planned in order for pupils to achieve the final outcome?
Mission 1
P1,2,3 receive, via GLOW, a broadcast asking for
their help to save the Polarlands. Pupils discuss
how our lifestyle impacts on the world’s resources
and climate.‘Who will save us’ – book by Rebecca
Morch delivered to all 3 classes along with individual
class tasks. Book frozen at the magic carpet page and
tasks to be completed in order to unfreeze it!
P1 task – Find out about the North Pole (Arctic)
and the land animals that live there.
P2 task – Find out about the South Pole (Antarctic)
and the sea animals that live there.
P3 task – Find out about the people who live in the
Polar regions and how they survive the Arctic
weather. (see separate plans for class lessons).

encourage the re-using of old and
unwanted books.
Final Presentation
After completing a 9-week programme working in P1-3 mixed co-operative groups, pupils
will complete the following 3 tasks:
1. Design and create a t-shirt to wear for performance and a backdrop for play.
2. Create an animation of an animal from the Arctic/Antarctic or one of the five Rs humans
can do to save the Polarlands.
3. Take part in the dramatisation of ‘Eddie Saves the World’ with musical accompaniment.
Pupils perform their play and show their animations to the school and parents, to celebrate all
their hard work and to raise awareness of climate change.

Criteria for a successful final outcome in relation to the four capacities –
