ASKING FOR REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS GED Testing Service considers each request for accommodations on an individual basis. You will be asked to fill out a “Request for Testing Accommodations” form based on your disability type. Applying for accommodations just takes a few steps: Remember, your documentation must provide evidence that you’re a person with a disability, and that you need accommodations in order to have access to the GED® test. Keep in mind that just because you’ve been diagnosed with a particular condition or disorder does not automatically mean that you’re disabled, as defined by federal law, or that you’re automatically entitled to any particular accommodation. GED Testing Service is dedicated to helping you determine the best environment for your testing experience. 1. Read the “Documentation Guidelines for Candidates” at www.GEDtestingservice.com/ accommodations 3. Print the “Accommodations Request Form” for your particular disability* • Talk with the GED Chief Examiner™ and your doctor about your disability and the documentation that is required; they will provide you with answers and assistance. 4. Give your doctor or psychologist a copy of the “Documentation Guidelines for Evaluators” and the “Accommodations Request Form,” and ask that the appropriate sections be completed • Stay positive. Focus on gathering all the information you may need. This will help you as you work through the accommodations request process. 2. Ensure your documentation meets our guidelines BEFORE YOU SCHEDULE YOUR TEST Once you hear a decision about your accommodations request: • Be sure you understand what accommodations will be provided. You don’t want any surprises on the day of the test. • Not approved for some or all of the accommodations you requested? Consider taking advantage of our appeal process, which is described on the website. • If your request for accommodations is returned to you as incomplete, consider providing us the additional information we require so that an accommodations decision can be reached. • If you have any questions, contact the GED Chief Examiner™ at your testing center. 5. Complete the entire form 6. Turn in the form and supporting documentation to your local GED® testing center Forms will not be accepted for review until signed by the GED Chief Examiner™ at the testing center. You will be notified of the accommodations decision by either the GED Chief Examiner™ (if you choose to take a pencil-and-paper GED® test) or by email (if you choose to take the GED® test on computer, where available). Please check with your local GED® testing center for more information. Give Yourself Enough Time You should try to submit your request for accommodations no less than 60 days prior to your desired GED® test date. This way, if your request is incomplete and we need additional documentation from you, you will still have enough time to submit the additional materials for our review. Keep in mind that each request is individually, thoroughly reviewed, and this takes time. * You can print a copy of each form online at www.GEDtestingservice.com/accommodations, or contact your local testing center to get a copy of the form(s) you need.
