Assistant or Associate Professor, San Diego State University, San Diego, California: The Department of Geography at San Diego
State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty member at the Associate or Assistant level in water resources.
Candidates must have a PhD in Geography or a related field and demonstrated outstanding research potential, with interests that could
include water resource systems analysis, drought mitigation, human and societal dimensions of water resources, sociohydrology, water
security, and/or climate and land use impacts on water resources. Ability to teach and conduct research at the intersection of human and
physical geography preferred. Demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarship and commitment to funded research activity is
required. The candidate will have an interest in teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in water resources, hydrology, and/or
water policy and management, and in developing undergraduate and graduate curriculum in watershed science and water resources.
The hire will advise students in the Department’s Master’s Program in Watershed Science and the joint SDSU-UCSB PhD in
Geography. The successful candidate will join and contribute to the interdisciplinary Area of Excellence, Blue Gold: Mitigating Water
Scarcity, which includes three additional new faculty hires in water treatment engineering, public health, and aqueous geochemistry.

Assistant Professor, University of Wisconsin, Green Bay, Wisconsin: The department of Public and Environmental Affairs at the
University of Wisconsin - Green Bay seeks applicants for a tenure-track position in Environmental Planning and Policy. The
Department of Public and Environmental Affairs offers two undergraduate majors 1) Environmental Policy and Planning and 2) Public
Administration. The department is also instrumental in support of majors and minors in Economics, Geography, and Political Science,
and is highly involved with a graduate program in Environmental Science and Policy and certificate programs in Environmental
Sustainability and Business, Emergency Management, and Nonprofit Management. Applicants with training or experience in
environmental planning, the ability to teach social science statistics and/or research methods, as well as experience and/or interest in

Assistant Professor, The University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia: The University of Virginia College and Graduate
School of Arts & Sciences Department of Environmental Sciences invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor
position in remote sensing of Earth surface processes. The department seeks candidates who are dedicated to the mission and
passionate about research and teaching in a world-class institution. Examples of research areas that would strengthen and
enhance existing program include, but are not limited to, the application of remote sensing to hydrological, geomorphological,
ecological, and atmospheric processes, especially as related to land use, land surface, and climate change. In addition to
developing external funding to support research endeavors, candidates will be expected to teach at the graduate and
undergraduate levels and provide service to the University, Department, and professional organizations. Review of applications

Assistant Professor, University of Cincinnati, Ohio: The University of Cincinnati, Department of Geography seeks to hire a
tenure-track faculty position in the area of watershed hydrology. The department seeks to hire an assistant professor to develop
and advance science-based watershed and water quality models and decision support tools that simulate the impacts of land use,
climate, land-atmosphere interactions and anthropogenic influences on surface runoff, on groundwater resources and on water
quality in both natural and engineered environments at a watershed scale. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise
and accomplishments in one or more of the following areas: hydrologic modeling of runoff, fate and transport of water quality
parameters (nutrients, sediments, chemical pollutants, and bacteria); the impacts of land use, urbanization and climate change
on stream and lake water quality and algal blooms; design and evaluation of best watershed management practices for
controlling legacy and emerging water quality issues; and mitigating urban and agricultural non-point source pollutions. The
department desires a candidate with an integrated understanding of the interactions between climate, water, and ecosystems,
and with technical skills and experience in GIS, spatial statistics, and computer simulation. The successful candidate will be
expected to develop and maintain an internationally-recognized externally-funded research program; provide excellence in
undergraduate and graduate teaching and education; and contribute to scholarly activities performed within academic
communities across the university. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute in meaningful ways to
interdisciplinary research and educational activities that complement and are synergistic within the Water Cluster. A Ph.D.
degree in geography/geology/hydrology/environmental engineering or closely related discipline is required. The position is
anticipated to be filled at the rank of assistant professor. However, exceptional associate and full professor candidates will be
considered based upon credentials. Successful candidates will are expected to have a primary appointment in Department of
Geography (A&S) or Biomedical, Chemical and Environmental Engineering (CEAS), and a potential joint appointment in the
second department or in others, including Geology (A&S), commensurate with the background and expertise of the candidate.

Assistant Professors, Department of Geography, Villanova University, Villanova, Pennsylvania: The Department of
Geography and the Environment at Villanova University invites applications for three tenure–track Assistant Professor
positions to begin August 2016. The department seeks individuals with exceptional potential as scholars and teachers who can
contribute to undergraduate and graduate programs. Position 1, Environmental Scientist: The department seeks an
environmental scientist who complements existing strengths in ecosystems ecology and biogeochemistry and will broaden the
scope of expertise among the faculty. The successful candidate will develop and teach lecture and laboratory environmental
science courses for undergraduate and graduate students and possibly non–science students at the introductory level within their
scientific area of expertise. A Ph.D. in Environmental Science or closely related discipline is required and teaching experience
and/or post-doctoral experience is preferred. Position 2, Environmental Geographer: The department seeks a broadly trained
environmental geographer who complements existing strengths in sustainability, environmental change, and geospatial
technology within the Department, and who will support the growth of the undergraduate and graduate programs. Preference
will be given to applicants with a regional focus outside the U.S. and to those who understand and have facility with geospatial
technologies. The successful candidate will develop and teach undergraduate geography courses and relevant elective courses
to graduate students. A Ph.D. in geography is required and teaching experience is preferred. Position 3, Geographer and GIS
Specialist: The department invites applications for a tenure–track Assistant Professor with a specialty in Geographic
Information Systems (GIS), who utilizes GIS and other geospatial technologies as a major component of their research. The
successful candidate will develop a robust geospatial research and teaching program that incorporates undergraduate and
graduate students and will teach undergraduate and advanced GIS and geography courses in their subject area. A Ph.D. is in
Geography or related discipline is required and teaching and/or post-doctoral experience is preferred. Teaching responsibilities
for all positions will include lecture and/or laboratory courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Teaching obligations
are 15 credit hours per year divided into a 3/2 teaching load. The positions will require the development and teaching of course
material and the supervision of undergraduate and graduate student research. Preference will be given to candidates with
promising research programs including extramural funding, and the potential for publication in prominent outlets.

Assistant Professor, Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon: The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences
(CEOAS) at Oregon State University (OSU) invites applications for a full-time 1.0 FTE, 9-month or part-time 0.75 FTE, 12month tenure-track Assistant Professor with a focus on cartography and geovisual analytics. The college seeks a colleague
firmly grounded in geography who will conduct research, teach graduate and undergraduate courses, and advise graduate
students in cartography and geovisual analytics. The candidate will apply these skills to the study of coupled human and natural
systems or some combination of geographic processes, including those involving water (e.g., water supply systems, river and
stream systems, transboundary water agreements, coastal and marine systems, and ocean processes), land use (land change
science, economics and resource use), and/or natural hazards (e.g. volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, and climate change).
Research foci may include developing fundamental methods in models, statistics, and/or algorithms for cartography and
geovisual analytics. This position will reside in the Geography program and within the Geography, Environmental Sciences and
Marine Resource Management (GEM) discipline group of CEOAS. This position will complement existing geospatial expertise
at CEOAS and OSU including GIS, remote sensing, spatial statistics, modeling, and geospatial intelligence and planning.

Two Assistant Professors, Texas State University, San Marcos, Texas: The Department of Geography at Texas State
University is hiring two full-time tenure-track Assistant Professors. Starting date is September 1, 2016; closing date for
applications is October 1, 2015. The Department seeks one Urban Geographer (with preferred additional expertise in
health/medical geography or economic geography) and one Cartographer (teaching and research interests in cartographic
design, cartographic theory, and geovisualization are essential). A demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and research is
required. Applicants should also be prepared to contribute to graduate advising at the Master’s/PhD level and maintain an active
research agenda including publishing and pursuit of external funding. A PhD degree in Geography, or a related field, is required
by time of appointment. The ability to teach courses in support of department’s undergraduate and graduate programs,
including introductory and advanced courses in cartographic design, cartographic theory, and geovisualization is required for
the Cartography position. For urban geography position, the successful candidate should teach introductory and advanced
courses in urban geography. Preference may be given to applicants with additional expertise in health/medical geography or

Graduate Student Research Assistantship, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan: Prospective PhD students
interested in research on human dimensions of environmental change are invited to apply to the School of Natural Resources
and Environment, University of Michigan for the academic year starting in September 2016. If accepted to the PhD program
applicants will be eligible for a graduate student research assistantship for work on human adaptation to environmental change
in forest systems in the United States. The position includes up to five years of monthly stipends, graduate tuition, and health
benefits. The ideal candidate for the assistantship has a well-developed interest in environmental research questions, a master's
degree in human geography, sociology or a similar field, and experience with survey methods and statistical analysis. Excellent
verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are required. Experience with qualitative interviewing is

Jeanne X. Kasperson Student Paper Competition: The Hazards, Risks & Disasters Specialty Group (HRDSG) is pleased to
announce the Jeanne X. Kasperson Student Paper Competition for the 2016 Annual Meeting of the AAG in San Francisco,
March 29- April 2. The HRDSG invites all graduate and undergraduate students who plan to present HRD-related papers at the
2016 meeting to submit an extended abstract of up to 1000 words to the HRDSG Chair by October 16, 2015. Award winners
will have their registration fees for the meeting reimbursed by the HRDSG, and their work will be highlighted in the J. X.
Kasperson Student Paper Award Session in San Francisco. Papers may be co-authored, but registration payment is limited to
one student fee per selected paper. Students entering this competition must be members of the AAG (the specialty group will
pay registration fees for the winners but not their association membership dues). Applicants for the award will be notified by

Study Abroad in Cuba, Department of Geography, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma: In March 2016,
the Department of Geography at Oklahoma State University will be leading a second annual trip to Cuba during Spring Break
(March 12-19). The deadline to enroll (GEOG 4600/5700 – The Environment and Heritage of Cuba) with a paid deposit

Kansas Association of Mappers: The 2015 Kansas Association of Mappers Conference will be held on October 5-8 in
Wichita, KS.
2016 Kansas Natural Resources Conference: The 2016 Kansas Natural Resources Conference will be held in Wichita, KS on
February 4-5, 2016. The theme for this year’s conference is “Conversations on Conservation – Engaging Landowners thru
Effective Communication”, but presentations on any topic regarding natural resources are invited. This is a joint meeting of
natural resource professionals, researchers, students, and managers representing more than seven professional societies and
organizations to discuss research and management surrounding the field of natural resources. Aside from the educational
perspective, it is a good opportunity to present information in your focus area (oral presentation or poster format). This
conference also serves as an excellent venue to network with other natural resource professionals. Additional information can
