1. Opening remarks
-Dean Shanklin announced the selection of Dr. Dwayne Crawford as the new Associate Dean of the
Graduate School. Dr. Crawford will begin his appointment January 2012.
-Dr. Kevin Lease will remain on as liaison for Board of Regents program review materials for the
Graduate School until further notice.
-General reminder: Course & Curriculum items and faculty nominations are due by the 10 th of each
month to be considered by Academic Affairs and then Graduate Council.
2. Minutes of the May 3, 2011 meeting were approved as presented.

8. Graduate Student Council Information – Matt Sellner, President
Graduate Student Council will be focusing on reorganization during the 2011-2012 academic year.
The goal is become a separate organizational unit from the Student Government Association and be
a clearly defined reference point for graduate students. Marketing will be a key aspect of this
process. Several new committees had been appointed including a Research Forum Committee,
Reorganization Task Force, Student Affairs and Career and Employment Service Task Force to
facilitate the work of the Council. The next meeting is September 12, 2011 in Union 207 at 12:00
p.m.
9. University Research and Scholarship
Dean Shanklin asked for input for graduate faculty and students regarding the vision of K-State
2025. The Graduate Council voiced numerous ideas on how to effectively engage individuals across
campus to address key factors, scholarship and success, for students. Ideas presented were noted by
Dean Shanklin for further review. The tasks of identifying strategies to obtain comprehensive input
for developing the Graduate School’s strategic plan for 2025 was assigned to the Committee on
Planning. The Committee on Planning will share their ideas with the Graduate Council at the
October meeting.
10. Other business
- Academic area caucus assignments and subcommittee schedules were presented for final approval.
Subcommittee meeting dates will be finalized by September 12th for distribution.
- Graduate Council directory was presented to members for the 2011-2012 academic year.
