● Planning
● Enrollment management
● Grant development
● Marketing
● Program planning
● Outreach
● Assessment
The Fact Book helps faculty, staff, students and members of the college community better
understand the operations of the college. The information is organized in five sections,
1) Student Headcount and Enrollment, 2) Student Demographics, 3) Student Performance,
4) Faculty and Staff, and 5) Facilities and Budget.
Each chart or table is a study in itself, and often a separate programming job. We have made
every effort to present accurate information. If a reader spots an error or would like to provide
suggestions, please contact the Planning and Research Office (PRO) at (831) 477-5577.
We would like to thank the Cabrillo College staff, faculty, administrators and Board of
Trustees for their support and dedication to planning and research at the college.
Special thanks go to those providing Fact Book data for their departments, and to the entire I.T.
team for providing much of the data, and for their consistently wonderful service.

In fall 2009, new ethnicity data collection procedures, including
the option to select multiple ethnicities, were implemented in
compliance with the U.S. Department of Education.
Only new students who applied and registered during this period
have encountered the new survey. Continuing students were not
re-surveyed; their earlier response (to a single-choice survey)
remains in the system. We expect to see continued increases in
the number of students selecting multiple ethnicities in the
coming years.

Age
The median age is lower than the average age because there are relatively few older students, but the range
of older students' ages is very great, causing the mean age to be substantially higher than the median age.
The median represents the mid-point of the age distribution indicating that half our students are 24 or younger
and half were 24 or older (since Fall 2008). The median is the preferred measure of central tendency for highly
skewed distributions such as this.

Source: Cabrillo Career Technical Education (CTE) Student Follow-up Survey data collected 2004-2013. Survey data is based on responses from students who
completed or left their CTE program the prior academic year.
Notes: The median represents the wage distribution mid-point. Half the students surveyed earned more, and half earned less, than the median amounts shown.
Annual and Hourly wages are self-reported and calculated independently. More respondents provided hourly wage data than annual wage data. Wage data do not
account for the number of hours worked in a year or non-wage compensation such as retirement or health benefits.

or left the program (no program enrollments since the start of calendar year 2011) after prior completion of 10 program units
Prior years follow the same sampling and surveying pattern.
*Prior to 2012, respondents had the option of responding yes or no when asked if they were working in their field of
study. In 2012 the survey added a third option, working in a job closely related to the field of study."

For years 1998-2010, the source of this data was the California Postsecondary Education
Commission (CPEC). Starting with AY 2010-11, the data is now provided by the UC and
CSU systems via the CCC Chancellor's Office.
Both UC and CSU use the community college where the student earned the most
transferable units as the transfer institution.
Under-represented includes Native Americans, African Americans, Latinos, Filipinos, and
Pacific Islanders.

Notes:
Cabrillo students were matched with National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) Student Tracker enrollment
data, and are counted when the first four-year-institution enrollment record comes after the student has
accumulated at least 12 units at Cabrillo. Students with enrollments at multiple 4-year institutions were
counted at the first institution at which an enrollment was reported.
This counting method, known as "Transfer Volume", is similar to that employed by the Transfer Velocity
tool (CCCCO Data Mart). The definition includes a larger number of students than are counted as
transfers by the receiving institution as reported on theUC and CSU Transfer page.
The NSC data match was performed as recently as November 19, 2013, with data from prior
matches incorporated to achieve the most complete Cabrillo transfer dataset.
Under-represented excludes Asians and Whites. Non-respondents are divided among under-represented
or not, in proportion to the valid under-represented rate.
The decrease in transfers to the CSU segment that occurred in 2009-10 is mainly due to fewer transfers to
San Jose State University for that year, due to limits placed on tranfer admission.

STUDENT PERFORMANCE
The Accountabilty Report for Community Colleges (ARCC) provides a system-level profile and trend of overall student
progress and achievement. Cohorts of first time freshmen are tracked for six years. Presented below is the
percentage of students in those cohorts who transfer to a four year institution, receive a degree or certificate,
or acquire sufficient credits to be eligible to transfer within six years.
In 2012-13, an update of the ARCC framework, called Student Success Scorecard, will used in the new accountability system developed in response
to the Student Success Task Force.
