Cabrillo College JOB DEVELOPER DEFINITION Under general supervision, plans and facilitates job development and placement services; assists students and program participants with the job search process; develops and secures work-study and work experience positions, internships, and career-oriented employment; performs related duties as required or assigned. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS The Job Developer establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with employers in Santa Cruz County to develop and facilitate placement services in employment and volunteer-based learning opportunities related to student general education and/or career technical education and provides workreadiness support for student program participants. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (Illustrative Only) • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Develops job placement with public and private sector employers for work experience, work study, internships, and community service (E) Refers student and program participants to employment, work-study, volunteer opportunities, and on-campus and community internships; coordinates referrals and services with other jobdevelopment programs (E) Develops and presents information regarding job search techniques and career exploration via workshops, one-on-one training and other venues (E) Critiques, assesses and advises student and program participants on job search skills including interviewing skills and résumé composition (E) Identifies employment barriers for student and program participants and recommends solutions to remove artificial barriers (E) Conducts regular review of student and program participants progress in each job placement; recommends corrective action, as appropriate (E) Performs employer site visits to develop job opportunities for students, which requires driving; monitors student progress (E) Refers student and program participants to appropriate on-campus and community resources, as needed to support individual employment plans (E) Provides mentoring to student and program participants related to work-readiness development, career exploration, work experience, and placement (E) Complies with applicable Federal, State and local program regulations, requirements and processes (e.g. CalWORKs, Workforce Investment Act (WIA), Cooperative Work Experience, Federal Work Study etc.) (E) Maintains case files, records, and documentation; performs clerical functions as required per program regulations (e.g. CalWORKs, WIA, Cooperative Work Experience, Federal Work Study etc.) (E) Operates standard office equipment and various software to produce correspondence and reports such as email, word processing, spreadsheet, databases and website management (E) Develops long-term, cooperative working relationships with community employment partners (e.g. individual work sites, America’s Job Centers and Employment Development Department) (E) Develops and maintains effective working relationships with employers, program staff, vocational and academic counselors, instructors, student employment, and human resources (E) Reviews and maintains job market information and employment trends (E) Utilizes and assists in maintaining a job bank database in collaboration with various college programs and departments Participates in college meetings and committees as required or assigned Performs related duties as required or assigned (E) = designates essential functions Job Developer Page 2 QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: • • • • • • • CalWORKs, WIA, community college job placement, and Cooperative Work Experience programs Applicable federal, state and college laws, rules and regulations Governmental, community, social service and employment organizations and their functions Work-readiness, job-search skills, effective work habits, and labor market information Occupational terminology, occupations, and basic requirements for various jobs Public and private employment sectors, employment training, and labor market opportunities Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment, personal or on-line computers and appropriate software Skill in: • • • • • • • • • • • Applying and explaining applicable federal, state and college laws, rules and regulations Demonstrating sensitivity to and determining the needs of special and disadvantaged populations, especially employment barriers (e.g. limited basic skills, poverty, homelessness, foster youth, and involvement in the justice system etc.) Contacting employers for the purpose of job development and placement Conducting job placement follow-up and assessing progress on program placements Communicating effectively orally and in writing Exercising sound judgment within established guidelines Coordinating multiple projects and meeting critical deadlines Maintaining confidentiality of information Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work Effectively representing the college in meetings with community groups and members of business and industry Operating a keyboard with sufficient skill to enter data into a computer and producing correspondence, reports and other written materials using various software such as email, word processing, spreadsheet, databases, and website management Other Requirements: • • Possession of and ability to maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license and safe driving record during the course of employment Ability to provide own transportation Desirable: • • Successful case management experience Experience in public or private job placement Education and Experience: Equivalent to completion of two years of college from an accredited college or university, which will provide the knowledge and skills listed and two years of experience in job development or mentoring job readiness. Please note: Additional experience that provides the required expertise as outlined above may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis or additional education may be substituted for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
