Invitation to Submit:
Submit your creation for display on the K-State Union construction
walls. Our goal is to create a place and virtual space for self
expression that can create deeper understanding of what justice,
multiculturalism, diversity, and educational equity means to our
community.
Intent:
The Canvas of Diversity is an initiative tied to the Cats for Inclusion campaign.
Cats for Inclusion originated as a student-led movement to advance claims of
racial justice, diversity, and educational equity at Kansas State University. One
result of this movement is a general call for the university community to align
institutional policies and practices with stronger standards of justice and
equity. Currently, the Cats for Inclusion are calling for increased opportunities
for curricular and co-curricular learning around diversity and multiculturalism
and funding the construction of a new multicultural student center. The
intent of the Canvas of Diversity Initiative is to extend these efforts, actions,
and conversations to the wider Manhattan and K-State community.

Design Criteria:
Based upon the intent, The EDI Group at
Kansas State University is initiating a
campus community competition in the
form of mixed media panels for display on
the K-State Student Union construction
walls. Panel submittals should respond in
some way to the Cats for Inclusion
website, and reflect your awareness of
and life experience associated with
diversity issues. They must be noncombative expressions, including prose,
poetry, film, print, graphic design, pencil &
ink, paint, charcoal, and any layered
mixed medium or materials. A paragraph
describing the meaning of the expression
must also accompany the artwork.
