DSPS, a categorically funded program, has been targeted with substantial cuts. At
this meeting we will begin a discussion of DSPS, focusing on background issues.
5.2 TEXTBOOKS
Beginning in July 2010, the college will need to make available textbook costs
available at the time that students register for classes. This, and other changes
made by the Higher Education Opportunity Act, will have an impact on
procedures for faculty selection of textbooks. The senate will discuss these
issues in order to help shape new policy and inform our colleagues.

Last year, the eight full-time faculty that retired were not replaced, and two fulltime faculty were terminated due to program reduction. We’ve lost a large
number of adjunct faculty due to the unit reductions. This year, we are not
conducting our usual Faculty Prioritization Process because of the budget
situation. The senate will continue our ongoing discussion of the budget
situation, this time with an emphasis on faculty positions.

Senate members and guests may speak to non-agenda items or propose items
for future meetings.
