Santa Cruz, along with Dr. Jan English-Lueck from San Jose State University, and Dr. Leanne Hinton and Dr. Kent Lightfoot from U.C. Berkeley will share the podium on November 23rd at the American Anthropological Association’s national meeting in San Francisco. Each speaker will present a new perspective on their particular sub-field as part of a session titled ”The Five Fields Lecture” organized by the Society for Anthropology at Community Colleges and chaired by Cabrillo emeritus professor Rob Edwards. These presentations are designed to give anthropology faculty insight into new and particularly fresh work being done throughout the field. The session will be 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, at the Lombard Room at the San Francisco Hilton Hotel. The papers being presented are “Linguistics: The Study of Endangered Languages” (English-Lueck); “Archaeology: The Archaeology of Colonialism” (Hinton); “Applied Anthropology: Applying Anthropology With Lower Division Students” (Lightfoot); “Cultural Anthropology: The Nature of Gender” (Shaw); and “Physical Anthropology: Human Evolutionary Studies in East and Southeast Asia” (Etler).
