RFI Questions & Answers:
3) Please confirm that the mechanical room duct is adequately lined to meet
Title 24. If so, then the only duct requiring R8 insulation is the new duct.
(Drawing Sheet No. M4.1 & M4.2; Specifications Section 15800, Paragraph
2.5.D)
Refer to Addendum #2 Specification Revisions, Section 15800.2.5 Duct
Insulation. All existing return air and supply air ducts in mechanical rooms
that do not meet R8.0 must be brought up to this level. Please assume that all
existing acoustic lined ducts to remain have 1" liner and therefore must be
wrapped with R4.0 wrap.

4) If the existing duct is wrapped in R4.2 then would you like an alternate
add for insulating existing ducts in the attic that are currently insulated
with R4.2 by adding an additional layer of R4.2? (Drawing Sheet No. M4.1
& M4.2; Specifications Section 15800, Paragraph 2.5.D)
Please see response to item #3 above.
5) Would you like an alternate add for stripping the existing attic duct
insulation and adding new R8 insulation? (Drawing Sheet No. M4.1 &
M4.2; Specifications Section 15800, Paragraph 2.5.D)
No, this is not required.
6) Should we consider the compressor in B-1500 to have the same level of
lead in the paint as the reported compressor in B-1400? (Drawing Sheet
No. M4.1 & M4.2; Specifications Section 15800, Paragraph 2.5.D)
According to the US EPA guidelines, a homogeneous sampling material is a
material that looks uniform throughout a physical space or what EPA calls a
"Functional Space". In this case, the Functional Spaces are buildings 1400
and 1500. If a building material is of the same age, is uniform in color,
texture, size, and date of application, it is considered one homogeneous
material.
It would therefore follow that given the dates of original construction, the
analogues elements of B1400/1500 fall within the guidelines of a homogenous
sampling material and the compressors at B1400/1500 should be considered
to have same test results for lead.
