Chloe – the new senate rocks
Mario – Youth & Power event tomorrow in Watsonville
Melissa – last year’s Youth & Power was awesome
Eric Barber – incoming president for AGS
– I will be back to get support from the new senate
- I know a lot of the new senate members & I think you will do a great job
Tracey – thank you to Gabe & Sesario for your help & support this year – this senate had to deal with some
difficult things – my advice to the new senate, use them they are your advisors

PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Thank you for being here
– come to the party on June 5
- we will be having 4 meetings over the summer
- Diana does a fabulous job as secretary – she will not be with us – I will need volunteers until we find
someone permanent
- One senate member not here today other than that this is the group we will be working with
- Robbie grant, Abraham president of OLA, & Robin Gatchel are interested in senate
REVIEW & VOTE ON APPLICATION FOR NEW SENATORS
Melissa would like to apply for Treasurer instead of being Watsonville Rep

INFORMATION

Introductions
All senate executive, senators & advisors had a chance to introduce themselves & tell a little bit
about themselves

Meet & Greet
Old Senate and New Senate, Sunday June 5th at 3PM in Henry Cowell State Park in Felton. This
event is a potluck, so please bring something to share! This will be a great time to meet the
previous Senate and the people you will be working with this upcoming year. See map for
directions. Hope to see you there!

Meetings
We need to have at least two meetings in June and at least one in August to get started for the next
year. When can everyone get together?
Meeting are set for Monday June 6th @ 4 pm & Monday June 13th @ 2 pm
Times may change but the dates will not – Please let Leflora know if you cannot come because we
need to make quorum to have a productive meeting
Leflora will email details of what room the meetings will be in
Agenda items need to be to Leflora by noon 3 days before the meeting so that she can publish the
agenda
June 6th items need to be to Leflora by June 3rd
June 13th items need to be to Leflora by June 10th
August 19th items need to be to Leflora by August 16th
August 26th items need to be to Leflora by August 23rd
Meetings are tentatively set for August 19th & August 26th

Anyone have any questions about the senate?
Sesario’s leadership class is 42172 CE65 & it meets Tuesday 3:30 – 5 pm
The last meeting of every month is held at the Watsonville center

Meetings are every Thursday from 3 pm to 6 pm – executive members please be prepared to meet
until 8 pm
Every senate member must be on one internal committee & one external committee
Leflora gave a quick run down of all the internal & external committees

Unfortunately Diana our lovely secretary will not be continuing on with us next year, so we need
to come up with a plan. Do we want to make this a Senators responsibility? Hire someone else?

ADVISOR REPORTS
Advisor Sesario Escoto: student affairs is moving to the art gallery in early June – the club room is being
planned to the fireside lounge, if you have issues with this let me know – bond oversight committee needs a
rep soon, if you are interested you need to apply to the president’s secretary – leadership conference is in
San Jose in October I hope you all consider going – be a student first, don’t get sucked into the power trip
of the student senate, be a student first – if you are getting overwhelmed don’t be afraid to ask for help or
resign if necessary
Advisor Gabriel Gutierrez: glad you are here – work on as much as possible over the summer

Meeting Review
Sesario – very good for first meeting
Leflora – I want to make executive very tight this year
Sesario- the senate has habit of having breaks – what do you think?
Nicole – I think we need breaks
Mario – sometimes a break is good talk to others about what is happening
Leflora – sometimes I think people who want breaks are not paying attention – I don’t like people wanting
breaks for a cigarette
Sesario – we need to be in a room & in a shape where we can all hear each other
Leflora – happy with all the new senators – glad we planned summer meetings

Next Meeting
Sesario – you should start working on the retreat
Leflora – I want to form a retreat committee
Sesario – you need to start working on this soon - there are other locations to consider – I did like the one
last year
Leflora – the executive should sit around the room to coach people – be on time to set a good example
