Cabrillo Participatory Governance Committee Survey, Spring 2015 For Members of Committees Reporting to the College Planning Council (CPC) Open‐Ended Written Comments Q3. Do you feel you have a clear understanding of this Committee’s structure and purpose? 1. I'm fairly new so feel like I am still finding my way. The "inside baseball" is sometimes a little dense. I find there is a lot of assumed knowledge. 2. Is it an advisory cmt.? Is it as decision making body? Is it a cya cmt for administrators? A bit of all the above perhaps. 3. Once we have clearer processes on how we work with the subcommittees that will be helpful. Also, having funding and thus more opportunities for all constituencies through PETL. 4. This committee has become a venue for IT to report only what IT has been working on and not a committee to discuss and decide future technology for the college and its implications. Worthless going. Send us a report via email. 5. Tendency towards expanding purpose beyond charter. Q4. Frequency of Meetings. Comments: 1.

Monthly or as needed. Twice a month and as needed. As needed. Twice a month. As required 3‐4 per semester. 3‐4 times per semester. As needed. There is a sub‐committee handling the management of research and student focus groups that meets more frequently. I'm on that as well. Q7. Is the membership of the committee appropriate to the goals? How could the composition of the Committee be improved? College Planning Council (CPC) Member Comments: 1. More faculty than needed. 2. Union rep appropriate? 3. Very management and full time faculty heavy. Students, classified, confidentials, and adjuncts are visiting many of the conversations that faculty should leave on the negotiations level. Institutional Effectiveness Committee (IE) Member Comments: 1. More representation from faculty. 2. Need all three VPs for accreditation purposes. Professional Engagement and Transformational Learning (PETL) Member Comments: 1. My understanding is that students will be added in the fall. 2. Perhaps the SLO coordinator should be there. 1 How could the composition of the Committee be improved, continued. Student Equity and Success Committee 1. The committee members should have a focused goal and outcome. Right now, it seems more about a college wide dialogue on equity, and not how to implement a plan for equity. There are too many interested parties who attend and want a voice which prevents instead of relying on their representatives. 2. Include ASC. Q12. Additional Comments: Answered: 17 Skipped: 39 Assessment Review Committee (ARC) Member Comments: 1. I recognize that the one issue represented above (with a Strongly Disagree) is my own failure and no one else's. 2. My favorite committee! 3. I don't think all the members have the same sense of value of the committee or fully understand the purpose and function of the committee. Many of the committee members do not conduct SLO assessments and that may be a contributing factor. 4. Marcy is really the heavy lifter of this committee. The rest of us primarily serve as an advisory committee to her, but the action items and reports that this committee produces come primarily from her. The college is lucky to have her. Classified Prioritization Committee Member Comments: 1. Information provided to the committee by components was, at times, very limited. Very few made a clear linkage to SLO's/AUO's, or Strategic Planning. This in turn made it more difficult for the committee to evaluate and assign prioritization. 2. Written justifications were inconsistent in demonstrating links to strategic planning and outcomes. Might want to re‐work instructions to emphasize importance. College Planning Council (CPC) Member Comments: 1. Difficult to answer question 8.9 because charge of cmt is not perfectly clear. But perhaps that's how it must be‐‐ambiguous‐‐when it comes to cpc 2. I would appreciate the primary questions that are going to be asked at the meeting be put on the agenda. It seems that the presenters usually know the main question that they are going to ask for each agenda item and I think it would be helpful if that question was clearly included in the agenda that is sent out prior to the meeting. I understand that the question is usually implied by the topic and that the presentation is meant to give us context, but especially as a new member, I would like it to be a little clearer and to do some research and attempt to get additional context beforehand. Facilities Planning Committee (FPAC) Member Comments: 1. There have been items on the agenda which have been discussed without the benefit of providing committee members with fully transparent intentions surrounding the measures. 2 Additional Comments, continued Professional Engagement and Transformational Learning Committee (PETL) Member Comments: 1. I think PETL has some great potential. It is the first semester that it has existed so we are still defining its scope. 2. With the membership all members should be required to attend. We are all very busy. Maybe we could meet quarterly? Maybe we could skip having an ice breaker at each meeting, although nice to bond, because they are not a good use of busy people's schedules. 3. I am a new member and only attended one meeting where I had to leave early. Student Equity and Success Committee Member Comments: 1. The room set up is like a classroom making discussion difficult. I should be a horseshoe arrangement. 2. I recently joined as a replacement for an original committee member. 3. The group has a good split between faculty, staff, and management. The only groups that seem small are students and adjunct faculty. Last meeting I counted 8 faculty (1 adjunct), 7 staff, 4 managers, and 1 student. There were visitors present whom I did not count. Technology Committee Member Comments: 1. 8.4, 8.5, 8,6 ‐ There is no decision taking place in this meeting. It's a "reporting" mechanism only. 2. The last meeting was especially informative, allowing for interesting perspectives and clarifications from the members. Cabrillo Planning and Research Office, Spring 2015 3
