The grant supports creating a STEM center in the 800 building and will cover the cost of building labs and remodeling the building. The grant will not fund sections or staff. Charlotte asked where the Communications Department is moving. Steve said he isn’t sure. Victoria said the contractor issues are almost resolved for the VAPA complex, so the college plans to convene FPAC to start talking about the space allocation process and how they want to reallocate the remaining funds in the bond program. Wanda added the grant will create a better community situation for students. Rachel said there is good synergy with the current Title V grant. Brian said much of the first year will be spent on planning but current 800 building occupants, who are not part of the STEM center will have to move very quickly. 6.0 Faculty Senate Meeting Update Steve reported that the recent Faculty Senate meeting focused on the program elimination and reduction process. The Faculty Senate has created a subcommittee that is working on a numeric matrix to rank programs on generally agreed upon criteria. The subcommittee will report their findings to the Faculty Senate and Instruction Council. In the interim the subcommittee has come up with a few initial recommendations; 1) faculty 1 of 2 retirements where possible not be replaced and 2) rather than focusing on eliminating the bottom ranked programs, determine core versus outside the core offerings, and restructure a program that would otherwise rank higher. Also the subcommittee proposed examining programs such as Cabrillo stage and counseling in the same way. 7.0 Adjourn The meeting adjourned at 2:00 p.m. CPC Minutes September 7, 2011 2 of 2
