ItisimportantthattheinitialestimatefromtheVPIofthenumberofcontractfacultypositionsthatthe
collegewillhirebeasaccurateaspossible.

crucial,butthattherankingprocesscreatedquantitativeresultsthatdidnotalwaysreflectthe
realityofprogramneeds.Forinstance,thecontracttoadjunctfacultyratiomightimpact
differentdepartmentsdifferently.TheBusinessDepartment,forinstance,mightbebetter
servedbyusingalargenumberofadjunctswhose“other”jobskeepsthemcurrentinthefield
andabletosharethosecurrentpracticesdirectlyintheclassroom.
3. NeedforongoingtrainingofSenatorsandDeansinusingthedata,understandingcollege-wide
needs,andvotinginthecollege’sinterests(notwitha“divisionhat”on).
