Just don’t forget to always have your transportation card. Here are three main types of transport (starting with the “easiest”): 1. Metro (map provided) This is the fastest way to travel around Prague. There are only three lines – red, yellow, and green – that can get you close to any location. Closed from midnight to 5am! 2. Tram After the metro closes or for places between metro stops, trams are the option! Just be careful because they sometimes close without much warning 3. Bus Mostly used by locals because of the pure volume of options MASARYKOVA For most American students studying at CVUT, this will be your dorm. To get there from the airport, take bus 119 to the final stop. To get to the city center from Masarykova, take the green metro line! Tram 51 at night (midnight to 5am) and trams 20, 26, 2, and 8 are all available during the day. Just look for the Dejvicka stop! Helpful for travel in Prague and even other countries! THE NECESSITIES When first arriving in Prague, you will not likely know where anything is located. These are some basics that will get you through the first couple of weeks! http://czech-transport.com/transport-service Billa – this is the equivalent of Dillons Grocery Store in the United States. Everything is in Czech, so don’t be afraid to translate some words before going there! (Especially milk!) Tesco – just like Walmart, this place has almost everything. There are many around Prague, but the one at Andel is in a mall, so take a look around while there! Corner Store – before heading out for the night or if you need a quick meal, this store is great. Located between Masarykova and Dejvicka metro. LOCAL HAPPENINGS Prague offers plenty of unique opportunities throughout the city. Here are a few hot spots to visit and how to get there! Czech Beer Festival Held from May 17th to June 2nd, this festival is a highlight for most students. There are three different tents with different music, food, and over 50 types of beer for about 40 crowns each. To get there, travel to the end of the red line (Letnany) and look for the big white tents! Beer Gardens Czech people like their beer, so these are open year round! Since there are too many to mention, try finding them on your own. Each one is a little different. CLUBS AND PUBS The PUB A favorite of American students, the PUB (Pilsner Unique Bar) allows you to tap your own beer and keep track of your total throughout the night! Find one of the three around Prague Mecca Since there’s free admission on Wednesday nights, this is a great place for a good time. Just take the red line to Nadrazi Holesovice!
