BASIC TRANSPORT
Getting around Prague – compared to some
other European countries – is a breeze! Just
don’t forget to always have your transportation
card. Here are three main types of transport
(starting with the “easiest”):
1. Metro (map provided)
This is the fastest way to
travel around Prague. There
are only three lines – red,
yellow, and green – that can
get you close to any location.
Closed from midnight to 5am!
2. Tram
After the metro closes or for
places between metro stops,
trams are the option! Just be
careful because they
sometimes close without
much warning
3. Bus
Mostly used by locals
because of the pure volume
of options
MASARYKOVA
For most American students studying at
CVUT, this will be your dorm. To get
there from the airport, take bus 119 to the
final stop. To get to the city center from
Masarykova, take the green metro line! Tram 51
at night (midnight to 5am) and trams 20, 26, 2,
and 8 are all available during the day. Just look
for the Dejvicka stop!

how to get there, go to this site. Helpful for travel
in Prague and even other countries!
THE NECESSITIES
When first arriving in Prague, you will not likely
know where anything is located. These are some
basics that will get you through the first couple of
weeks!

Billa – this is the equivalent of Dillons
Grocery Store in the United States.
Everything is in Czech, so don’t be
afraid to translate some words before
going there! (Especially milk!)
Tesco – just like Walmart, this place has
almost everything. There are many
around Prague, but the one at Andel is
in a mall, so take a look around while
there!
Corner Store – before heading out for the
night or if you need a quick meal, this
store is great. Located between
Masarykova and Dejvicka metro.
LOCAL HAPPENINGS
Prague offers plenty of unique opportunities throughout
the city. Here are a few hot spots to visit and how to get
there!
Czech Beer Festival
Held from May 17th to June 2nd, this festival is a highlight
for most students. There are three different tents with
different music, food, and over 50 types of beer for
about 40 crowns each. To get there, travel to the end of
the red line (Letnany) and look for the big white tents!
Beer Gardens
Czech people like their beer, so these are open year
round! Since there are too many to mention, try finding
them on your own. Each one is a little different.
CLUBS AND PUBS
The PUB
A favorite of American students, the PUB
(Pilsner Unique Bar) allows you to tap your own
beer and keep track of your total throughout the
night! Find one of the three around Prague
Mecca
Since there’s free admission on Wednesday
nights, this is a great place for a good time.
Just take the red line to Nadrazi Holesovice!
Check out many more options!
