HOW TO STUDY
Don’t cram
Don’t panic
Don’t be over-confident
Figure out an effective study
method for you. Not everyone
likes background noise or
complete silence
Remember to sleep
Give yourself breaks to have
fun so you don’t burn out - go
shopping or to a movie!
Try flashcards or make your
own study guide
Be on time to your final!
TRUE OR FALSE
Read the statements carefully
Statements with absolute
phrases like “always” or
“never” are usually false
Statements with qualifiers like
“usually”, “sometimes”, or
“generally” are usually true
If one part of the statement is
false, the whole statement is
false
There are often more true
statements than false


MULTIPLE CHOICE
Try to answer the question
without looking at the possible
answers first
If you know at least two
answers are true, “All of the
above” is likely the answer.
If you know at least two
answers are false, “None of the
above” is likely the answer.
Answer the easiest questions
first.
Use the process of elimination
on more difficult questions
Statements with absolute
phrases like “always” or
“never” are usually not the
correct answer
If you have no idea, choose ‘B’
or ‘C’
ESSAYS

Write down facts, notes, and
key words in the margin before
you start writing while it’s
fresh in your mind


Be concise
Use proper grammar and
spelling
Pace yourself!

Spring Semester Book Exchange
Attention Psychology Students! Instead of selling your books
back to Varney’s, sell your textbooks for half price ($17) with
fellow PILOTS students who are taking Psychology in the spring.
Megan will arrange “book exchange” times in January. For more
information, contact Megan at mejohns@ksu.edu.

HOW TO CALCULATE YOUR GPA?
TALENT SHOW
Mark your calendars!
WHAT: The PILOTS Talent Show
WHERE: Little Theatre, Student Union
WHEN: March 7th at 7:00 p.m.
WHO: ALL OF YOU!
Start brainstorming what your special
talents are! Sign up with Megan! Prizes
will be awarded!
Let's say that you took 12 hours, and received
one A, two B's and a C. Your GPA will be
calculated as follows:
Points: A=4 B=3 C=2 D=1 F=0
Class 1
Class 2
Class 3
Class 4
2 credit hrs x 4 (A) = 8 pts
3 credit hrs x 3 (B) = 9 pts
4 credit hrs x 3 (B) = 12 pts
3 credit hrs x 2 (C) = 6 pts
Total credit hours = 12
Total points = 35
Total points (35) / Total credit hours (12) =
GPA (2.92)
MERITORIOUS PERFORMANCE
AWARDS
Your grade point average is harder to improve if
it becomes low, so keep building and
maintaining good grades!
A few times each semester, the PILOTS team recognizes a
select number of PILOTS students. These students deserve
special recognition for their hard work, successful class
performance, positive attitude, determination to succeed,
and many other factors.
NOMINEES: Scott Alexander, Lail Ariath, Paige Farmer,
Jackie Harpold, Brooke Johnson, Keith Mains, Alinna
Martinez, Ben O’Loughlin, David Pfeifer, Christian
Rittmann, Rutherford Sanford, Natalie Schaefer, Rose
Smith, Kimberly Stalling and Samantha Suby
WINNERS
David Pfeifer
What is impressive about David Pfeifer is that he knows what he
wants to get out of college and he knows where he wants to go
with his degree. One of the most important things any student can
do for themselves is answer the question, “Why am I here?”
David has done this. It is the first step in being successful in
college and will point him (and others) in the right direction. Like
David, don’t settle for less than what you want!
Samantha Suby
Sam exemplifies the definition of hard work. She constantly asks
for help in order to succeed in her classes. The diligence she
shows for her academic work deserves the recognition of the
Meritorious Performance Award. Her efforts here at K-State so
far are commendable and she has good reason to be proud of her
work. Congratulations, Sam!
READING AND TESTING
If you need additional help
studying for finals or reading, the
PILOTS staff is here to help!
Jonathan is available to help with
study skills and test-taking tips.
Jonathan, Melissa and Megan are

may learn some valuable new
hints!
