Mr. Hunter is a leader in the legal regulatory group, which manages the licensing of satellites and earth stations for ViaSat worldwide, as well as participating in national, regional, and international radio regulatory groups. Prior to forming the regulatory role, Mr. Hunter served ViaSat in a number of roles after joining the company in 1995. He managed the product support and training for StarWire, ViaSat’s first commercial VSAT product, and also provided applications engineering and project engineering support for several key customers. As Network Operations director for ViaSat Network Systems he led the consolidation of the former Scientific Atlanta and ViaSat network operation centers and managed 14 different satellite networks, providing worldwide customer service to 85 additional networks. As a systems engineer he performed the initial link budgets and helped develop the prototypes for ViaSat’s spread spectrum mobility products, and also worked closely with legal staff to secure the first-of-its-kind earth station licenses in the U.S. and internationally. Mr. Hunter expanded the radio regulatory role with the licensing of ViaSat-1 and ViaSat-2 satellites as well as key international rule changes supporting earth stations on moving platforms (ESOMPs). Before joining ViaSat, Mr. Hunter worked for GTE Spacenet, Satellite Business System, and the U.S. Army. Roles included system engineering, product development, product management, and application sales support. Mr. Hunter has been working in the radio and satellite communications field for 40 years, holds U.S. and International patents and is a licensed Professional Engineer.
