A Standard is…
“A Standard is an agreed way of doing something. It
could be about making a product, managing a process,
delivering a service or supplying materials….” (BSI)
A standard is a document that
provides requirements,
specifications, guidelines or
characteristics that can be used
consistently to ensure that materials,
products, processes and services are
fit for their purpose “ (ISO)
“Standards are the distilled wisdom of
people with expertise in their subject
their subject matter and who know the
needs of the organizations they represent”

SG5 is responsible for studies on methodologies for evaluating ICT effects on
climate change and publishing guidelines for using ICTs in an eco-friendly way.
SG5 is also responsible for studying design methodologies to reduce ICTs and e-waste's adverse
environmental effects, for example, through recycling of ICT facilities and equipment.
