These awards are coordinated by the Graduate School, Alumni Association, Office of the Provost, K-State Chapter of Golden Key, Council of Graduate Schools, and the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS). More information at: k-state.edu/grad/students/awards/ GSC and MAGS Awards for Graduate Student Teaching Excellence The GSC Award for Graduate Student Teaching Excellence recognizes one master’s and one doctoral GTA who have excelled in classroom teaching. Recipients of the GSC teaching award serve as Kansas State University's nominees for the annual MAGS Excellence in Teaching Award. Award $ 500 scholarship to each GSC awardee $750 honorarium if selected for MAGS award MAGS/ProQuest Distinguished Thesis Award Award MAGS/ProQuest Distinguished Thesis Award This award recognizes a thesis that contains original work and makes an unusually significant contribution to the discipline. The effective date of degree award must fall in the period of July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2016, inclusive. Master’s students in Social Sciences and Engineering/Math/Physical Sciences are eligible for the current award year. $750 honorarium to one winner in each area Presidential Awards for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Deadline Sept. 23 - Department heads/chairs to submit to college deans Oct. 7 - College deans submit to Graduate School Oct. 26 - K-State nominees for MAGS selected by review committee Deadline Sept. 23 - Department heads/chairs to submit to Graduate School Oct. 14 - K-State nominee for MAGS selected by review committee April - Winners recognized at MAGS annual meeting Award Deadline These awards recognize and reward excellence in teaching performance in the undergraduate program. Four awards are made each year, and one of these awards will go to a GTA. Coordinated by the Office of the Provost. $5,000 honorarium February Alumni Association Awards Award Deadline Graduate Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service – Awarded to a graduate student who has made an impact by serving and leading the graduate student population. Graduate Award for Outstanding Academics – Awarded to a graduate student who has contributed to his/her academic field of study. Tony Jurich Award – Honors a graduating graduate student who has demonstrated a commitment to community leadership and service through Jurich’s Core Leadership Tenets. Award Plaque February and March Alvin and RosaLee Sarchek Predoctoral Honors Fellowship and Travel Awards in Molecular Biology Award Deadline $17,000 to one fellowship recipient $1,000 each to up to three travel award recipients March 1 Award Deadline The award recognizes PhD candidates who demonstrate excellence in scholarship through publications and other accomplishments appropriate for his or her academic field. Eligible students must be admitted to candidacy, entering the last year of his or her program, be enrolled in Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 and plan to graduate in May or August 2016. Number and amount of awards determined by selection committee April 1 Golden Key Awards for Outstanding GTA and GRA Award Deadline Each year Golden Key recognizes one outstanding GTA and one outstanding GRA who have been nominated by their faculty supervisors. Award plaque April CGS/ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Award Award Deadline This award recognizes dissertations representing original work that make an unusually significant contribution to the discipline. The effective date of degree award, or the completion of doctoral degree requirements, must fall in the period of July 2014 to June 30, 2016, inclusive. Doctoral students in Social Sciences and Engineering/Math/Physical Sciences are eligible for the current award year. $2,000 honorarium to one winner in each area June 3- Department heads/chairs to submit to Graduate School June 22- K-State nominee for CGS selected by review committee December - Winners recognized at CGS annual meeting These awards recognize PhD candidates who have excelled in scholastics and research that relies significantly on one or more contemporary molecular biological techniques. Students must show evidence of effective communication of research results through publications in leading journals and presentations at national and international meetings.
