Spring 2015 Registration and FAQs
Spring 2015 registration for graduate students begins Friday, October 24, 7am EST . All current graduate students are pre-authorized to register - students are not required to meet with their advisor prior to registration . Advisors will hold Express Advising hours Monday, October 20 - Friday, October 31 , and will not resume appointments until

NEW Economics Placement Exam Registration
Students wishing to take the SIS economics placement exam to waive the ECON-603 prerequisite to register for SIS-616
International Economics or ECON-661 Survey of Economic Development for spring 2015 may now register for the
November exam. Some MA programs may allow students to waive ECON-603 based on other criteria - students should check with their academic advisor if they have any questions about whether they should take the exam.
The online economics placement exam is offered live and is proctored (students must be on webcam during the test administration). The exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions that cover both microeconomic and macroeconomic principles. Students have 90 minutes to complete the exam. Students may only take the examination once as an SIS graduate student. A passing score is a 74%. There are four different time options available in November:

Fri 11/14 10:00am--11:30am

The registration deadline is Friday, November 1 . After registering, you will receive information about how to access the online testing space. This will be the last exam period offered until Spring 2015.
DEADLINE TODAY SIS Winter 2014/Spring 2015 Graduate Research Grant Applications
The SIS Graduate Research Grants, sponsored by the SIS Dean's office and the SIS Graduate Student Council, are designed to subsidize the costs of travel for current SIS graduate students attending conferences, conducting research or participating in an internship, while also promoting graduate student scholarship and professionalism. Grant recipients may be awarded up to $500 for domestic travel and up to $1000 for international travel. Applications to fund travel that will occur in Winter 2014/Spring 2015 are due by Monday, October 20 . The application and more information can be found here .
SIS Graduate Research Grants cannot be used to pay tuition or to fund an SIS Practicum.
Diplomacy and Diversity Fellowship
Graduate students interested in transatlantic diplomacy are encouraged to apply for the Diplomacy and Diversity
Fellowship, sponsored by Humanity in Action . The fellowship seeks to promote constructive diplomacy in a changing world through innovative and inclusive approaches. Fellows travel to Washington, DC, Paris and Berlin from May 29 to
June 28, 2015, to study how American and European governments and societies are responding to a wide range of international issues. Applications are due October 30, 2014 . To learn more about the fellowship, click here . Questions should be directed to diplomacy@humanityinaction.org.

Students planing to complete all program requirements this semester must apply to graduate via their myAU portal
(under Academics – Apply to Graduate). While students can apply through Friday, October 31 , we recommend that you complete the application as soon as possible (the application takes less than 5 minutes) so that your advisor can begin reviewing your graduation eligibility for fall.

Office of Merit Awards Info Session: Getting Started on the Boren Fellowship Application

The Boren Graduate Fellowship supports students pursuing the study of languages, cultures, and world regions that are critical to U.S. interests, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East with up to $30,000 for up to one year of language study. Applicants must propose study of a foreign language appropriate to their country or region. All Fellowship recipients have a post-award national-security related work requirement. U.S. citizenship required. The national deadline for 2015-2016 is January 27, 2015.
SIS Exploring Identities Series: Faculty Storytelling on Professional Pathways

This session of the SIS Exploring Identities Series will feature SIS faculty sharing stories from their professional pathways. Some faculty will focus on their experiences as first generation college students or first in their families to earn a doctorate or first in their families to enter the field of international affairs.
