All current graduate students are pre-authorized to register - students are not required to meet with their advisor prior to registration. Advisors will hold Express Advising hours through Friday, October 31, and will not resume appointments until November 3. FAQ topics include: · Approved Second-Level Methods Courses (updated as of 10/20) · Stops · Pre-Requisites · Waitlists · SRP, Thesis, Independent Study Registration · MA Professional Experience Requirement · Internship (Academic Credit or No-Credit) Registration NEW Registration Open for November TOR exam (Nov 17-21) Students planning to take the free Tool of Research exam to fulfill the SIS MA language requirement should be aware that the last exam period for the fall 2014 semester will be held November 17-21, 2014, For more information on the TOR exam and to register,click here. The last day to register for the September exam is Friday, November 7. Economics Placement Exam Registration Students wishing to take the SIS economics placement exam to waive the ECON-603 prerequisite to register for SIS-616 International Economics or ECON-661 Survey of Economic Development for spring 2015 may now register for the November exam. Some MA programs may allow students to waive ECON-603 based on other criteria - students should check with their academic advisor if they have any questions about whether they should take the exam. The online economics placement exam is offered live and is proctored (students must be on webcam during the test administration). The exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions that cover both microeconomic and macroeconomic principles. Students have 90 minutes to complete the exam. Students may only take the examination once as an SIS graduate student. A passing score is a 74%. Diplomacy and Diversity Fellowship Graduate students interested in transatlantic diplomacy are encouraged to apply for the Diplomacy and Diversity Fellowship, sponsored by Humanity in Action. The fellowship seeks to promote constructive diplomacy in a changing world through innovative and inclusive approaches. Fellows travel to Washington, DC, Paris and Berlin from May 29 to June 28, 2015, to study how American and European governments and societies are responding to a wide range of international issues. Developing such a question usually requires many drafts and a process of trial and error. In this session we will address some of the challenges associated with framing a research question, such as determining the appropriate breadth versus narrowness of the topic achieving the right level of concision and "punch," and anticipating the needs and expectations of national screening committees. This session is intended for students who expect to apply for awards to fund field research or an international internship.
