NEW Fall 2015 Practica - 2nd Round of Applications Opened
Still interested in a Practicum for the Fall semester? The SIS Practicum program is accepting a second round of
applications for the following courses:
*Sustainable Institution Building in Law Enforcement Organizations (Client: Department of Justice, Faculty: Trace
Lasley, lasley@american.edu)
*Program Assessment in Intercultural Leadership (Client: Pyxera Global, Faculty: Amanda Taylor,
taylor@american.edu)
The Application deadline for the second round is Friday, March 27 at 11:59pm. Applications for all other Summer and
Fall practica remain closed. Application instructions and eligibility for the second round remain the same as for the first
round. See "Apply Now" on the Practicum Blackboard site or the Practicum website for complete details, including tips
for completing a successful application. Students will be notified of the outcome of their application via email by
Wednesday, April 1. Please direct any questions to sis_practica@american.edu.
Registration Open for April TOR exam (April 6-10)
Students planning to take the free Tool of Research exam to fulfill the SIS MA language requirement should be aware
that the last exam period for the spring 2015 semester will be held April 6-10, 2015. For more information on the TOR
exam and to register, click here. The last day to register for the April exam is Friday, March 27.
DEADLINE SOON SIS Student Awards Nominations Open
SIS faculty, staff, and students are invited to nominate students (or self-nominate) for the 2014-2015 SIS Student Awards.
Nominations must be submitted through this online form. Descriptions of the awards are available here. The deadline for
nominations is Wednesday, March 25th. If you have any questions, please email sisstudentawards@gmail.com.
Fall and Summer 2015 Registration - FAQs
Registration for graduate students for Fall 2015 begins Monday, March 30, 7am EST and for Summer 2015 on
Wednesday, April 1, 12am midnight EST. All current graduate students are pre-authorized to register - students are
not required to meet with their advisor prior to registration. Advisors will hold Express

23 - Friday, April 3, and will not resume appointments until April 6. STUDENTS SHOULD REVIEW THE FALL AND

Per the announcement sent to program listservs, Kristin Richards' last day at SIS was Friday, February 6. Kristin has left
to take a position at Pace University in New York City. Until the Graduate Advising office hires a new advisor, students in
the IPCR, EPGA, IER and IE programs have been assigned an interim advisor. For interim advisor assignments, click

DEADLINE SOON Apply to Graduate for Spring 2015
Students planning to complete all degree requirements in the Spring 2015 semester must apply to graduate via their
myAU portal (under Academics – Apply to Graduate) no later than Monday, March 30. We recommend that you
complete the application as soon as possible (the application takes less than 5 minutes) so that your advisor can begin
reviewing your graduation eligibility for spring.

AU’s Center for Teaching, Research and Learning will teach students how to use the formula function in Excel to make a

Human Rights Skills Workshops

Urban,Communications Manager at WEConnect International
The Center for Human Rights & Humanitarian Law at the Washington College of Law (WCL) is holding a series of
human rights skills workshops in Spring 2015 as part of their commitment to help students attain the practical skills they
need to work in the field of human rights and public interest. These workshops will provide basic training in skills essential
to working in public interest such as grant proposal writing, program management, and strategic communications for
advocacy. Attendance at the workshops is open (there is no need to RSVP) and pizza will be served.
