NEW SIS Summer Research, Conference and Internship Grant - Applications Open SIS is pleased to make travel grants available to students who will be participating in a conference or internship or conducting research as an SIS student this summer. Grant recipients will be eligible to receive up to $500 for domestic travel and up to $1000 for international travel to support these activities. For information about eligibility requirements and the application, click here. The deadline to submit an application for a summer grant is Monday, April 20. For other funding resources for study abroad, please visit the SISAbroad website. NEW Graduate Student Council (GSC) Executive Council Elections Would you like to be a student leader at SIS? If so, consider running for a position on the executive council of the SIS Graduate Student Council. The Executive Council is made up of the President, Vice President, Communications Coordinator, and the Treasurer. Descriptions of the duties of each position can be found on our Facebook page. To run, please send current GSC President Jane Burke an email (Jane's email is jb4192a@student.american.edu). Include the position you are running for and a short paragraph explaining why you want to be a part of the GSC and what you hope to accomplish if elected. Your email must be received by Friday, April 3rd at 11:59PM. Elections will be open from Monday April 6th-Sunday, April 12th 11:59PM. A link to the election survey will be sent out through each program listserv and posted on the SIS GSC's Facebook page. DEADLINE TODAY Apply to Graduate for Spring 2015 Students planning to complete all degree requirements in the Spring 2015 semester must apply to graduate via their myAU portal (under Academics – Apply to Graduate) no later than Monday, March 30. We recommend that you complete the application as soon as possible (the application takes less than 5 minutes) so that your advisor can begin reviewing your graduation eligibility for spring. Fall and Summer 2015 Registration - FAQs Registration for graduate students for Fall 2015 begins TODAY, March 30, 7am EST and for Summer 2015 on Wednesday, April 1, 12am midnight EST. All current graduate students are pre-authorized to register - students are not required to meet with their advisor prior to registration. Kennedy Human Rights (current International Programs Coordinator, WCL) and Cate Urban,Communications Manager at WEConnect International The Center for Human Rights & Humanitarian Law at the Washington College of Law (WCL) is holding a series of human rights skills workshops in Spring 2015 as part of their commitment to help students attain the practical skills they need to work in the field of human rights and public interest. These workshops will provide basic training in skills essential to working in public interest such as grant proposal writing, program management, and strategic communications for advocacy.
