NEW SIS Graduate Student Council Applications Review
The Graduate School Council has received a number of nominations for the open
positions of Vice President and Task Force Representatives. GSC is currently
processing the applications and will continue with the selection in accordance with

our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/SISGSC. NEW Part-Time Job Opportunity for Graduate Students - Two Faculty
Assistants for SPA-189 Intro to CLEG SPA 189, Introduction to CLEG, is a new course designed to introduce first-year
students to the multidisciplinary Communications, Legal Institutions, Economics, and
Government major. Teaching assistant responsibilities include: advising students in
preparing group presentations; grading written work; holding review sessions; and
supporting professor with technical aspects of course (videoing guest speakers;
organizing student group project fair). Preference will be given to applicants with an
interest in political communication and experience developing students’ writing skills.
An interview will be requested. Applicant must be a graduate student. Salary: $13.00 an hour –10 hours per teaching assistant per week (two positions) for
fall 2015 semester. Applicants should email a resume and cover letter to Lara
Schwartz (lschwart@american.edu).

OVERDUE Apply to Graduate for Summer 2015
Students planning to complete all degree requirements in the Summer 2015 semester
must apply to graduate via their myAU portal (under Academics – Apply to
Graduate). Applications for summer 2015 were due June 1, so if you have not do so
already, please apply for graduation ASAP. Students should receive a graduation
eligibility confirmation email from the Graduate Advising office (to their AU email
address)confirming all remaining requirements after their advisor has reviewed their
graduation eligibility. Additional Methods Courses - Program Evaluation and International
Policy Analysis- added for Fall 2015
Two additional methodology courses have been added to the fall 2015 Schedule of
Classes: a second section of International Policy Analysis (SIS-750-002; in addition
to SIS-750-001 Int'l Policy Analysis) and a second section of Program
Evaluation (SIS-750-003; in addition to SIS-635-002 Program Design, Monitoring
and Evaluation). These courses are available for registration now via your myAU
Portal. For a list of approved methods courses by MA program, please visit the SIS
Graduate Advising website.
Fall 2015 Skills Institutes

Now Scheduling Advising Appointments ONLINE
All graduate advising appointments will now be booked online at:

appointments. Unlike Express Advising, appointments allow for more in-depth
advising conversations, including longer-term course/degree planning. Appointments
are available in-person or via phone or Skype. If you have any questions about
