Applicants must be current first-year MA students and US citizens, and the winner must enroll as a full-time student in both semesters of the 2016-2017 academic year. SIS Global Networks Program Are you interested in meeting with fellow SIS students to talk about different cultural and regional interests? Do you want to meet international students and help them adjust to the culture of SIS? Then the Global Networks Program is for you! The Global Networks Program is for looking for SIS students who wish to be Peer Advisors or International Student Mentors. Submit your application by December 31! Diplomacy and Diversity Fellowship The Diplomacy and Diversity Fellowship is a collaborative, transatlantic program on international relations and global diversity. The Fellowship is designed to develop leadership skills and knowledge among graduate students aspiring to careers in foreign policy. Over four weeks, 24 American and European graduate students meet with leaders in government, business and academia. Through this program, Humanity in Action seeks to promote constructive diplomacy in a changing world through innovative and inclusive approaches to national and international issues. The 2016 program will take place in Washington, Berlin and Warsaw from May 29 to June 26, 2016. Humanity in Action will host and organize multiple sessions in Washington that will focus on building skills, networks and knowledge for foreign policy careers. Now Scheduling Advising Appointments The SIS Graduate Advising office is now scheduling 30 minute student appointments through the end of the fall semester. Mike Rosenberger is back from paternity leave and has resumed meeting with students in the GGPS/IP, EPGA and PhD programs. Unlike Express Advising, appointments allow for more in-depth advising conversations, including longer-term course/degree planning. We particularly encourage new students who have not yet had an advising appointment to consider meeting with their advisor. Boren Fellowship The Boren Fellowship provides funding for the study of world regions and languages critical to U.S. interests. Awards are made for a minimum of 12 weeks, and preference will be given to applicants proposing overseas programs of 6 months or longer. Grantees receive up to $30,000. A typical proposal would include summer intensive language study in the U.S. followed by an international component consisting of language training and an internship for an NGO, but applicants have broad flexibility to design their own activities. First-year and second-year graduate students are eligible to apply. In exchange for funding, Boren Fellows commit to working in the federal government for at least one year after graduation. The application deadline for the Boren Fellowship is January 28, 2016, and autumn is the appropriate time to think about applying. The Office of Merit Awards maintains an extensive Blackboard site with tips on applying, and also offers individual and group advising sessions for this fellowship. Applications for Fall 2015 Graduation OVERDUE Students planning to complete all degree requirements in the Fall 2015 semester must apply to graduate ASAP via their myAU portal (under Academics – Apply to Graduate). Students planning to participate in the December 2015 Commencement ceremony may now rent their regalia and should do so ASAP. Exact fit cannot be guaranteed after Friday, November 6.
