PROGRAMME INTRODUCTION: The world is witnessing an emergent evolution of the information society. A period characterized by widespread electronic access to information and communication technologies (ICTs) through the use of computer and Internet technology. This dramatic development of information and communication technologies (ICTs) has revolutionized the way students and scholars learn, teach and carry – out research. It has transformed the global economy and heralded a new and dynamic information society. This emerging information society has not been accorded greater attention in the country especially at the tertiary education level in the country. There is therefore the need to step up the awareness and sensitization on the issues and realities of the emerging information society in academic communities. This programme on the subject matter of the information society is carefully designed to educate and inform stakeholders in tertiary institution of learning. To offer stakeholders the opportunities to present ideas, arguments and positions on the overall effort to create information society at the tertiary education level. To campaign for improved connectivity and access on the use of ICT by students and scholars in tertiary institutions. To actively promote the use of ICTs as a fundamental workings tools to students and scholars in tertiary institutions of leaning. To inform, educate and enlighten the students and scholars in tertiary institutions of learning on the subject of the of information society in the country. To be a platform for conversation or exchange of ideas or information between academia and ICT stakeholder on the subject of information Society. To formulate awareness and consensus on the issues underlying the theme of the information Societies, Digital Divide and ICT4D.
