ITU Symposium on ICTs, the Environment and Climate Change,
Workshop on Human Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs)
Turin, Italy, 6-9 May 2013
Copy to:
The Permanent Mission of Italy,
Geneva
Dear Sir/Madam,
1
ITU together with the Ministry for Economic Development of Italy is organizing the Eighth
Symposium on ICTs, the Environment and Climate Change that will take place from 6 to 7 May 2013 and the
Workshop on Human Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs) that will take place on 9 May 2013.
In addition to its ground-breaking standardization work, ITU-T Study Group 5 – Environment and climate
change – agreed the formation of the new Focus Group on Smart Sustainable Cities (FG-SSC) which will hold
its first meeting on 8 May 2013 (See TSB Circular 13).
These events will be all hosted at Telecom Italia’s headquarters in Turin, Italy.
2
Discussions will be held in English.
3
The main purpose of the Symposium is to move forward the agenda on using ICTs to monitor
climate change, mitigate and adapt to its effects and, in this light, identify future requirements for ITU’s
related work – including standardization of ICT equipment and networks as well as development activities.
4
The objectives of the Workshop on EMF are to respond to WTSA-12 Resolution 72 “Measurement
concerns related to human exposure to electromagnetic fields”, to provide an overview of EMF issues to
policy makers and other stakeholders and to identify a few actions for consideration of Working Party 2 of
ITU-T Study Group 5.
5
The Symposium and the Workshop will bring together leading specialists in the field, from top
policy-makers to engineers, designers, planners, government officials, regulators, standards experts and
others.
6
Participation is open to ITU Member States, Sector Members, Associates and Academic Institutions
and to any individual from a country which is a member of ITU who wishes to contribute to the work. This
includes individuals who are also members of international, regional and national organizations.
