La Quinta High School 2012-2013 Mrs. Ramsey’s Pre-Calculus Course Outline Objectives: This course is designed to incorporate all math objectives learned so far to delve further into those topics. Once the overview is complete, then an introduction to calculus will be presented. The topics to be covered include: systems of linear equations and inequalities, polynomials and rational functions, trig functions and their graphs, trig identities and equations, vectors and parametric equations, polar coordinates and complex numbers, conics, exponential and logarithmic functions, sequences and series and an introduction to calculus. Student Responsibilities: To be RESPECTFUL! This includes: be on time and prepared for class by bringing all materials needed, listen when others are speaking, ask questions when you are lost, turn homework in on time (at the beginning of class on Mondays!), and lastly NO CHEATING! (This is my ultimate pet peeve!) Also, this year I will try to update my page on the website and I may refer to that website for you to print out worksheets or to check assignments. Your book, calculator, paper and pencil are key to being successful in class, so these materials should be brought daily. Please see me if this is a problem. Grading Scale: 90.0% and up = A 80.0%-89.99% = B 68.0%-79.99% = C 65.0%-67.99% = D Below 65% =F (80-81% is a B-, and 88-89.99% is a B+) (68-69.99% is a C-, and 77-79.9% is a C+) Grading Systems and Categories: Homework & Classwork (practice) Quizzes (formative) Tests (summative) Participation (practice) Projects (formative) Final (summative) : : : : : : 1-10 points per assignment 20-50 points 100 points 50-100 points 50-200 points 200-300 points These points will fall into the grading outline provided by the district when converted to percentages. However, these could possibly change. It is left to my discretion, but I will inform you! Homework and Notes: Homework is due, in packets, on Mondays. They are to be in ascending order with the homework number, page and problems assigned highlighted and your name and period on the front page of the packet. Homework is to be neat and easy to follow. Notes are due at the end of each chapter. They are to be in ascending order of date and each different day of notes taken will be highlighted. Please make sure that your name is on the first page of the chapter notes. Notes are to be neat and easy enough to read! Tardies and Absences: The tardy and absence policy provided in your planners will be followed. Please be on time, this comes back to having respect. If something unexpected has happened or you need to contact me, feel free to email me at: sramsey@ggusd.us or call my cell: 714.269.4253. I do go to bed by 9pm, so no calls past 8:30pm please! Please communicate with me. Communication is the key to a smooth class and everyone “being on the same page”. I am looking forward to having my returning students and getting to know my new students. Let’s have a great year!
