San Salvador boasts Gothic and Modernist Style architecture, but interestingly is home to several noteworthy structures influenced by Modern, Googie, and Popluxe (similar in style to structures in Los Angeles). San Salvador’s Historic Downtown has been located there since the 16th century. Unfortunately, only a few Spanish Colony buildings remain as a result of severe earthquakes, however, Conservation and restoration efforts have been enacted and have preserved and restored several building that were erected in the 19th century. The National Palace, National Theater, Metropolitan Cathedral, Parks, and museums are just a few of the locations where students can actively engage in authentic conversations with El Salvadoreans.
