As one of the few community colleges in the country to offer an Associate of Applied Science degree in Applied Psychology, Northampton will help you gain the foundational knowledge you need to transfer to a four-year program or go to work with local organizations. WHY IS THIS PROGRAM FOR YOU? »» Careers in applied psychology fields are diverse and plentiful. You can branch out as therapeutic support staff (TSS) in schools or clinical settings, as a teacher’s aide or counselor, or as a TSS worker in behavioral health or rehabilitation services »» You’ll build from the ground up! You’ll be introduced to the general principles of psychology as they’re applied to work, relationships and growth. This includes perception, learning development, motivation, emotion, therapy, and communication. »» NCC has transfer agreements in place with seven state colleges and universities that will help you pick up right where you leave off after your four semesters of study. WHAT WILL YOU LEARN? »» What are the differences between normal and abnormal development processes? You’ll be able to answer this question and identify these processes and behaviors. »» You’ll become at ease with working with clients and demonstrating skills such as active listening, processing, responding, and expressing empathy. »» You’ll sharpen both your interview and writing skills and be able to use your notes and treatment summaries to identify client’s needs and document treatment.
