CONTINUOUS PROCESS IMPROVEMENT
CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
“When people and organizations focus primarily on quality, quality
tends to increase and costs fall over time. However, when people and
organizations focus primarily on costs, costs tend to rise and quality
declines over time.” – W. Edwards Deming
Quality is a never ending quest and Continuous Process Improvement
(CPI) is a never ending effort to discover and eliminate the main causes
of problems. It accomplishes this by using small-steps improvements,
rather than implementing one huge improvement. When we engage in
process improvement, we seek to learn what causes things to happen.
Northampton Community College’s Center for Business & Industry is
offering a Continuous Process Improvement Certificate Program.
The program is designed to give your employees the knowledge and
skills to implement a CPI program at your organization. CBI’s program
consists of 6 Core Competencies/Required Courses. Other Continuous
Process Improvement related courses are available. Course substitutions
may be allowed on a case by case basis.
This Certificate Program teaches employees how to:
◆◆ Reduce variation
◆◆ Remove activities that have no value to the organization
◆◆ Improve customer satisfaction
Six (6) required programs to earn the Continuous Process Improvement
Certificate with 4.8 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
Required Programs:
◆◆ Understanding the Basics of Quality Management Systems
◆◆ Quality Risk Management
◆◆ Continuous Improvement Process & Tools

ECONOMICS OF SAFETY CERTIFICATE
The motivation to implement required safety and health practices
sometimes diminishes within the context of production schedules.
When production is viewed as the priority above safety standards, the
illusion of cost savings can quickly be replaced by the sobering realities
associated with a workplace incident that causes a death or severe
injury. The impact to the bottom line can be devastating. Information
and awareness is a proactive way to avoid workplace tragedies while
protecting the profitability of the organization.
Five (5) required programs to earn the Economics of Safety Certificate
with 1.0 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
Required Programs:
◆◆ Assessing the Cost of Workplace Accidents
◆◆ Assessing Hazards and Safety Risks
◆◆ Advocating for Safe Work Practices
◆◆ Industry Specific Safety Basics
◆◆ Leading the Safety Campaign
SUCCESSFUL SAFETY
COMMITTEE CERTIFICATE
The intention of a safety committee is to identify and remediate
organizational safety concerns while promoting and implementing
best safety practices. The challenge for any organization is to stay
on task while maintaining positive safety focused attitudes.
Demonstrating commitment from all involved can only be achieved
through activity that engages and informs all employees within
the workplace. It is this engagement that fosters the desired safety
culture within the organization.
Five (5) required programs to earn the Successful Safety Committee
Certificate with 1.0 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
Required Programs:
◆◆ Fire & Life Safety Preparedness Basics
◆◆ Selecting Safety Meeting Topics
◆◆ Engaging the Workforce in Safety Practices

“
During a spike in hiring several years ago, we contracted Northampton’s
CBI to collaborate with us on a complete redesign of our
curriculum and deliver training to our technical partners. Together
we quickly created a quality program that integrates Lehigh Valley
Health Network’s specific protocols, policies and equipment, and
accommodates our fluctuating number of participants. They’ve
successfully trained nearly 550 of our professionals at a substantial
savings to our organization. They’re an excellent partner.

Putting Your Leadership To Work
Leadership Lehigh Valley is now part of CBI Leadership and Executive Development. The
Mission of this 30 year old community asset is to develop effective community leaders by
providing a forum for the exploration of the concepts and skills of leadership and how that
leadership can grow and sustain a healthy community in the Lehigh Valley. We look forward
to using the skills and talent of our newly expanded Leadership Team to develop leaders for
business, industry, education and now the non-non-profit community.
Specific Objectives
• To enhance the understanding of the best practices of effective leaders in order to benefit the
organizations they touch;
• To equip emerging leaders with a broader and deeper understanding of the problems,
opportunities and resources existing within the communities comprising the Lehigh Valley so
that they may more effectively assume responsibility for civic affairs in addition to their work
responsibilities; and
• To give participants the impetus to find a field of community involvement in which to serve
after they have completed the Leadership Lehigh Valley program.
Our Constituents
We embrace the need to serve all, without exception, who desire to lead and are committed to
the Mission and Objectives of Leadership Lehigh Valley.

To enable the Lehigh Valley to be a model of how the development of emerging leaders for their
business can also be applied to help transform a community to be healthy and continuously
moving forward

“The Management Development Program* offered through Lehigh
Valley Association of Independent Colleges (LVAIC) helped me
ease into a new environment at Moravian College. The program
was very thorough in its basic management material. But what
I found the most useful was the detail to situational leadership.
In this four-month/four-course certificate program, I was able to not
only meet people in my career field, but was given the opportunity
to learn from them as well.”
