A Message from the Guidance Office

You are now more than half way through your senior year! It is important that you finish the year off strong, keeping your grades up and staying on top of all college deadlines. Many of you have received your financial aid packages from the college you will be attending. It’s important that you review these financial aid packages and discuss them with your parents and your college. Students who have applied for on-campus housing must be sure and submit all necessary information by the deadlines indicated for each campus. Review your college online portal account for your Financial Aid Package now!

Deadlines for Cal State Fullerton:

 Accepting Admission and Enrollment Deposit: May 1, 2016

 ELM/EPT: Register: www.ets.org/csu , last date to take the test(s): May 07, 2016

 New Student Orientation (NSO) registration: May 13, 2016 by 5pm

 ELM/EPT scores received by CSUF: June 21, 2016

 Deadline to complete Early Start Program Smart Page, June 1, 2016

 Last day to register for Early Start Program English courses at CSUF July 22, 2016

 Last day to register for Early Start Program Math courses at CSUF July 29, 2016

 Deadline to complete Early Start Program activities, August 15, 2016

 Final Official High School Transcript: July 15, 2016 ( Ms. Bhoot in guidance office)

Failure to complete any of the above items by the deadlines will disqualify your admission.

Financial Aid Packages for Graduating High School Students

 Federal Pell Grants –

Federal grant issued to students in need. Award/year =

$5,815

 Federal Stafford Loans Subsidized loans Freshman may borrow up to $3,500 the first academic year. Unsubsidized and subsidized combined can borrow up to $5,500 the first academic year – interest rate currently fixed at 4.29%. Subsidized or Unsubsidized maximum loan is $5,500.00. Subsidized Need-based ,the government pays interest while you’re in school. Unsubsidized - not Need-based, student pays all interest that accrues starting 6 months after student is no longer enrolled or falls below half-time.

 Federal PLUS Loans - unsubsidized loans made to parents. If parents don’t qualify, you may be able to borrow additional unsubsidized Stafford loan funds.

 Campus-Based Programs - Financial aid given by participating schools. There are three

Campus-Based programs: 1) Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants - awards range from $100 - $4,000. 2) Federal Work-Study - provides jobs to students, allowing them to earn money to pay education expenses 3) Perkins Loans - Low interest (5 percent) loan that comes from your school that must be repaid; the maximum annual loan amount is

$5,500. No interest charged while in school.

Seniors - may begin applying to CA Community Colleges for Fall 2016. Colleges have opened

Fall enrollment. Make sure to apply for 2016-2017 school year. Enrolling in Community college typically involves 5 steps:

1. Apply online to any CA Community College by creating an account at www.cccapply.org. After applying to your college of choice, you will receive an email with info to complete the next steps.

2. Take placement exams

3. Make an appointment and attend orientation

4. Meet with college counselor

5. Register for classes

Criminology now approved at Mount Saint Mary College

The Mount recently received NYS approval to offer a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology. This new major allows students to concentrate in general criminology, for students interested in a variety of areas; the criminal justice system; juvenile justice; and restorative justice, for students interested in alternative approaches to addressing crime by involving offenders, victims, and the community.  5 seniors will be selected to receive a 4-year award dispersed each semester, and 5 seniors will receive a one-time $1,000 scholarship

 Selections based on academics or campus and/or community involvement.

 This Scholarship provides scholarships to students who begin their higher education at a community college and provides opportunities for students who plan to transfer to four-year colleges or universities or who will be studying in a vocational or technical education field.
