INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CHRISTIAN EDUCATION CAPSTONE PORTFOLIO
As part of your Christian Education Capstone, you are to develop a Practicum Portfolio. This
is your masterpiece showing potential employer’s what you have accomplished as a Christian
Education student at Westminster College.
The portfolio is to be housed in a three ring binder, with labeled section separators between
each semester’s contributions.
The elements in bold face and underlined are required for each practicum semester of work.
Other elements may or may not be included according to the contract requirements.

III. Book and Journal Article Reviews
A. Any books or articles assigned by the Site-Supervisor in conjunction with the project
are to be reviewed.

A. Written Curriculum, Lesson Plans, Publicity, CD’s, DVD’s, etc.

III. Analysis of Programs and Materials Used
A. Analysis of Programs.
1. If the intern is assigned to work with a specific program, then he or she is expected
to provide an analysis of the program.
a. Describe the program.
1) What is the purpose of the program?
2) How does it contribute to the physical, mental, moral and spiritual development
of the participants?
3) Is the program appropriate for the age, development and situation of the
participants?
2. How effective is the program? Does it meet its stated goals?
3. How would you change the program to make it more effective?
B. Analysis of Materials Used:
1. For each set of materials answer the following questions:
a. What was the purpose of these materials and program?
b. What are the expressed goals of the materials?
c. Were these materials appropriate for the age group in terms of their physical,
mental, social and spiritual development. Why or why not?

2. Evaluate one lesson from each set of materials according to attached instructions.
a. Discuss the suitability of each set of materials for use in Christian Education.
b. What worked, what did not work? Why?
IV. The Internship journal
A. The student is to keep a journal in which he or she reflects on the learning experience.
B. Discuss questions and problems that arose during the period of the internship.
a. Describe the problem or concern (Person? Situation? Program?)
b. What are the options for dealing with this problem or concern.
c. Which option was chosen and why?
d.. What was the outcome of the decision?
V. Presentation of Internship Results.
A. Provide a complete copy of any research papers written, or programs and materials
created for this internship..
B. The student is to make a professional presentation of some aspect of the internship.
1. The student must be appropriately dressed.
2. The student must inform the professor of any necessary materials, such as the smart
cart, or other college resources, no later than one week before the presentation..
3. The student is to provide all other materials necessary.
4. A copy of the presentation is to be handed in to the professor one week before the
presentation.
VI. Final Self-Evaluation:
This part of your internship is a critical part of your development as a Christian Educator.
Using the contract, the annotated bibliography, the statement of goals, and your
internship journal, reflect on your experience of the internship.
A. Fulfillment of Project or Assignment:
1. Did you accomplish the project or assignment as defined in the contract?
a. Did the project of assignment fulfill your expectations about it? Why or why not?
b. What particular challenges did you encounter in fulfilling the project or
assignment?
c. What was most enjoyable about the project or assignment?
2. How did your readings contribute to the fulfillment of the project or assignment?
3. How was your site supervisor?
a. Did they meet with you once a week for planning and guidance?
b. Did they give clear directions?
c. Did you feel that your work was appreciated?
d. Were there any particular problems with the placement or site-supervisor?
B. Fulfillment of Academic Goals:
1. Did you meet your academic goals? If so, describe how these were met.
a. If not, describe why you think these goals were not met.
2. How did your readings contribute to the fulfillment of the project or assignment?

2. Was the organization of the internship and it process appropriate and doable?
3. Was the information given to the site-supervisor adequate?
4. Was the information and expectations provided to the student made clear?
5. What needs to be done to clarify the requirements for both the site-supervisor and
the student?
